We're excited about producing a printed publication in the digital age, but we need your support. Here’s some insight into our goals for The Bikepacking Journal, and a look at where your money goes when you choose to back us. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Our decision to launch a printed publication devoted solely to bikepacking raised some eyebrows, but we think the future of print is bright, assuming enough people are willing to believe in us...

In a few days I'll be heading to the printer here in Berlin to deliver the final files for the first issue of The Bikepacking Journal, the new biannual publication I'm producing with BIKEPACKING.com.

The first 148-page issue features more than a dozen original stories from an immensely talented group of 20 writers and photographers. It'll be available in very limited numbers at a handful of outposts around the world, but the best way to get a copy is to join the Bikepacking Collective. We're not printing many extras, so if you're interested, be sure to join by this Sunday, September 23rd so we can order you a copy!

You can visit https://www.bikepacking.com/join/ to learn more about the Bikepacking Collective. Thanks for your support!

Weekend watching: In case you missed it, last week saw the release of Given By Mountains, a new short film by Joe Cruz about our 600-mile ride across Kyrgyzstan last summer. I heartily recommend setting aside some time to have a look!

Find it here:

In the summer of 2016, four of us—Lucas Winzenburg, Joel Caldwell, Logan Watts and I—rode for 23 days across Kyrgyzstan. We rode fat bikes over marshes,…

We found this little guy all alone on a remote, dry stretch of the Ramble route between Steamboat and Walden. He was cowering on the side of the road when my friend Justin spotted him.

He took down three full bottles of water and then hid in the shade under my bike. He was wearing a collar, but didn't have any tags or ID. There wasn't anyone or anything around for miles, so Justin carried him five or so miles to the nearest farm, where we asked the farmer to call around and told him we'd come back for him in a few days if he couldn't find the owners.

The next day we got a text letting us know the owners had been found. Apparently, they'd been camping in the area and he'd gotten out of their car. It was a bittersweet end to the story because I think we both wanted to adopt the little buddy.
