In 1987, a young DJ Irv Gotti was deeply inspired by Run-DMC's "Sucker MC's" and the local success of Jam Master Jay, who lived just down the block from him in Hollis, Queens. This proximity allowed Gotti to witness firsthand the influence and success of Jay, fueling his own aspirations in the music industry. At just 15 years old, Gotti showcased his burgeoning DJ skills in Jamaica Park, impressing local audiences and earning the respect of older peers, which marked the beginning of his journey in hip-hop.
