My Philosophy
I truly believe in Budo as an educational means. While teaching in the traditional attitudes and techniques, I apply all the sophistication of modern methods, didactic know-how and expertise. Budo begins and ends with courtesy. We use Kyhon (Basics), Kata (Forms) and Shiai/Randory (Fighting) as tools, but the main aim is educating and refining the human character.
The foundation is the physical training according to the values of Chogun Miyagi Sensei (my Ryuha (Style) is: Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate Do from the linage of the historic Jundokan Dojo (Naha, Okinawa) and the connection of training to daily life. We use the Dojo as a centre of energy, a place where we all go to find a different world. I see the dojo as a laboratory in which life itself is examined, where we produce the environment in which students will be confronted with different situations and emotions, success and also failure. Budokas (martial artists) may learn and experience stress, pain, determination, will power, development and strengthening of the spirit, sensibility, self-awareness and so on.
The Sensei (Teacher) teaches balance between the physical and the mental (not only physical workout and perspiration but also strategy). The main aspects of which are self-discipline, human relations, and contribution to one’s society and country.
