Prayers have been answered today. Shaylynn’s AnC has rebounded back to 2,010, Hgb 10, platelets 241, and WBC 4.72. Since Shaylynn’s metabolites on chemo were so elevated they will decrease her oral chemotherapy doses and start her on allopurinol to take with chemotherapy so her liver can breakdown and metabolize chemotherapy better. Since stopping all chemo one month ago she has had no nausea or vomiting so we are hoping since restarting with lower dose these symptoms will not return. Prayers she does well restarting medications with no issues.

Last Wednesday after shaylynn went to ER for fever our NP called and told us she was either afraid her IgG level was low again or Shaylynn might have come out of remission so we were scheduled appt for today in KC. As you could imagine we have been on a roller coaster of emotions. With me and Shaylynn being sick since Wednesday josh has had to pick up the slack. Josh has been the very best nurse for us both. Shaylynn’s labs today showed she is still in remission and her AnC has increased to 630. She is no longer severe neutropenic. Shaylynn’s IgG was also 1230 which is great news. This really shows you how a regular virus or illness takes a toll of chemo patients. When we were last in KC they ran metabolites on Mercaptopurine which Shaylynn’s are way off. Normal value should be less than 5,700 and Shaylynn’s was 47,358 so her little body isn’t metabolizing the chemotherapy like she should be. At this time oral chemos are still on hold until her AnC is greater than 750. They will be figuring out dosing needed of another medication she will need to be taking with her daily chemo so she can metabolize them normally. Please pray she continues to heal and we can restart her medications needed.

Been a long morning but ended up having to take Shaylynn to ER for fever. Shaylynn’s fever was 100.9 and her sinus symptoms worsened. She has tested positive for rhinovirus and AnC plummeted to 100. Shaylynn received a dose of antibiotic in ER and we were able to come home and isolate. We will speak with her oncologist tomorrow about plan of care but otherwise we will just hang out and recoup. Please pray that she gets well soon. Of course I’m also having same symptoms as Shaylynn so I’m trying to recoup also. Prayers that Josh stays well.

Repeat labs yesterday showed AnC decreased to 400 and her platelets have also decreased to 74. Plan to repeat labs next week and pray they go up. Shaylynn is neutropenic and not liking that we make her wear mask for her safety.

Another month down but have had some set backs…nothing time won’t help. Shaylynn’s AnC was only 480 so all oral chemotherpay is held and will repeat labs next Wednesday. Hgb 11.0 and playlets were 186 so other labs look good. Shaylynn had LP with intrathecal methotrexate, vincristine and prentaminine.

We came to KC yesterday so Shaylynn could do small bowel x-ray due to her vomiting episodes. LThere's no signs of intestinal malrotation/anatomical problems but the contrast did empty out of her stomach somewhat slowly and there were some signs of what is called "SMA syndrome." SMA syndrome or Superior Mesenteric Artery syndrome happens when two arteries pinch the first part of the small intestines and can make it hard for the stomach to empty. This typically occurs as the result of weight loss and the loss of a fat pad that typically keeps the artery from pressing on the small intestines. It can present with nausea and vomiting and in severe cases can require a temporary feeding tube going from the nose to past the narrowed part of the intestines to help kids gain the weight back. But if we are able to get Shay to regain the weight without the use of a feeding tube and just with eating by mouth, that would be great! Sometimes liquids are better tolerated than solids so using nutritional shakes like Pediasure, Ensure, or Boost can be helpful. Shaylynn did put on a pound or two since seen last week. So at this time we will just be monitoring Shaylynn and hope she continues to put weight on and able to not have anymore nausea or vomiting. If episodes continue we will need to do further testing. Please continue to pray for this girl and hope her body heals and no more sickness.

Hello everyone. Thought we would jump on here and give everyone a little update over the last week. Shaylynn got to come home from hospital Friday after last week health scare that sent us to ICU Tuesday night. We were told to see GI in KC but when we left hospital the first opening was 10/30. Yesterday morning Shaylynn and I were on our way in to see her pediatrician for post hospital follow up when I decided to call KC again and see if there were closer openings. There was a cancellation that afternoon at 2:20 so we cancelled appt with pediatrician and headed to KC instead. Dr Brianna Shuler was absolutely amazing. Labs were done and Shaylynn is scheduled for a digestive x-ray Wednesday 9/3. Her lipase level has increased which could be signs of pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas which could cause abdominal pain) but other electrolytes were normal. Shaylynn thankfully does not have abdominal pain. We will do x-ray and if negative then plan would be for scope to do biopsies of stomach and etc. things she wants to keep in consideration are injury to SMA (major artery on backside of stomach) that could have been caused by numerous NG tubes versus cyclic vomiting syndrome. Shaylynn has not had blood in vomiting so first diagnosis is less likely but still possible. Cyclic vomiting syndrome is autoimmune and they find to be more prevalent in chemotheray kids as long term use of chemotherapy is hard on your body. Our hope is to find and answer and treat our girl as safely going forward. Please continue to pray she doesn’t have another episode like last week and gets healthier everyday.

Shaylynn has been inpatient since Tuesday night due to severe hydration from nausea and vomiting. She could use continued prayers for her appetite to return so she will eat and drink again. She tried a little baked potato last night and maybe 3/4 bottle of propel water all day. We need her to start eating and drinking so she can get better and go home soon.

Another month down. AnC is holding on at 910, hgb 11.1, and platelets 269. We have asked to repeat thyroid levels so still waiting on those results (maybe have question if hypothyroid). If thyroid levels normal then hair loss is likely just from chemotherapy and hopefully comes back. She has little new growth so far so she does not want pictures taken unless moms wins protest! We will make appt to see her pediatrician for the vomiting we have been having on and off as her oncologist does not feel this is due to chemotherapy since we have not started new medications. Pray she adjusts going back to school in the 19th and maybe answers for her stomach issues.

After a very long day we are on our way home from ER. Shaylynn woke up vomiting at 7:30 am and continued getting sick into the afternoon. Between noon to 1 she developed headache and couldn’t keep Tylenol down. Shaylynn vomited 15 times today before we got to ER. We spoke to her oncologist and they recommended taking her in for dehydration. Dr Morrison in ER was wonderful. After treating her headache and nausea/vomiting we were given option to stay in hospital or go home. Needless to stay Shaylynn has had enough of hospitals and we are going home to rest. She was able to keep jello and water down by time we left ER.

Please pray for peace for Shaylynn. You can see if first picture her hair has come in nicely and thick as can be. Starting last Thursday/Friday she has been losing her hair in handfuls. We have no answers as to why this is happening but will be seeing her oncologist on the 30th. She was really loving her new hair so she is very upset with this change and since there are no answers as to why this is happening we are unsure if it will come back. She is a stronger fighter for sure.
