We just got a batch of photos and an update from Great Loop record setter Robert Youens. He's looking to break the all around 12-day Loop record in '26 with a new boat boat from Weldbilt. She's a 2370-MV model, 23' long and 70" wide at her hull, 93" wide at her gunwales with 32" height at her sides and a slightly higher transom.

Weldbilt seriously overbuilt this one for pounding along 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The transom features box tubing and double transom knees. The front is—as you can see—also super reinforced for taking hours of waves at high speed. AND there's an ice skid for jumping logs along the way.

Next stop, St. Louis, where Youens' friend Quinton Clark will install tanks, his signature (and life-saving) high rise bow, center console, sleeper compartment (though he probably won't get much sleep), and hydraulic steering and electric trim tabs. Then she'll make way to Mighty White Marine in Arkansas for paint, instruments, jack plate, controls, console and a Tohatsu MFS 140 long-shaft outboard--before coming home to Austin for final touches.

Youens is a force of nature. Listen to our Power & Motoryacht podcast interview with him wherever you listen to pods. https://powerandmotoryacht.com/podcast/great-loop-record-breaker-robert-youens/

What would it take for you to board this ferry?

All jokes aside, it is truly impressive to see how this crew manages to keep a (probably) critical operation serviceable in spite of it all. Necessity is the mother of invention—and ingenuity.

Walking for coffee at the Ocean Reef Club's 2025 Vintage Weekend and right off the bat, you run into this beautiful 1969 Whaler 17. She was redone by the folks at Barton & Gray and serves as one of their runabouts. Simply stunning—and with a modern Yamaha, reliable too. The full spray of bedliner protecting the trailer has got us thinking too. Stay tuned for more from Vintage Weekend. We're already seeing a couple of big old boats lined up at the dock that are mind-blowing..

Grand Banks just sent us preview shots of a custom built 54 EU Edition that they'll be showing off at Boot Düsseldorf, Jan 17-25, 2026. They say this one's been designed specifically for Mediterranean and Northern European waters. She'll offer gobs of teak trim in a three-cabin layout with a full-beam master stateroom with en suite bath, VIP cabin forward and a twin guest suite with a second head. This one's efficient V-Warp hull will be pushed by a pair of shaft-driven Volvo D13's which should be good for a steady 20-knot cruise. She'll have Humphrey stabilizers, interceptors a water maker and rooftop solar panels charging a battery bank that should give her extended time off the grid or the generator. What do you think?

While pop-top campers on small powerboats are becoming something of a trend, we are seeing nothing quite like this at shows in the U.S. and Europe—why not? Should we be attending ?

"In sundry of these storms the winds were so fierce, & ye seas so high, as they could not bear a knot of sail, but were forced to hull, for diverse days together. And in one of them, as they thus lay at hull, in a mighty storm, a l***y young man (called John Howland) coming upon some occasion above the gratings, was, with a seal of the ship thrown into the sea; but it pleased God yet he caught hold of the top-sail halyards, which hung over board, & ran out at length; yet he held his hold (though he was sundry fathoms under water) till he was hauled up by the same rope to the brim of the water, and then with a boat hook & other means got into the ship again, & his life saved; and though he was something ill with it, yet he lived many years after, and became a profitable member both in church & com̅one wealth."

If you thought you had a bad day during your last offshore trip because your Starlink or fish finder went offline, consider good ol' John Howland while you read to William Bradford's firsthand account of the Mayflower's journey in his book "Of Plymouth Plantation." It'll put it all into perspective. And if you're near Plymouth, Mass., make a pilgrimage to Pilgrim Hall Museum, where you can see this painting, Gilbert Gilbert T. Margeson's The Mayflower At Sea—and learn the stories, in person.
Happy Thanksgiving!

What's your take on Arcadia's new A80? This 78-footer debuted in Cannes this year. One of the main goals with her specific size was compliance with strict Posidonia seagrass protection regulations. The builder's claiming her next generation 4.5kW solar and battery configuration, paired with Volvo IPS propulsion, will give her 40 percent lower fuel consumption than most boats in this size category. She'll have five cabins, room for a crew of four and a huge upper deck—good for taking in all those forbidden spots you'll be allowed to overnight.
