Marking today as Mirabel being in a strong heat. She is glued to the buck pen fence, very interested in the boys. They are showing off all their moves for her! 🤣 But she needs to wait for her next heat! If I breed her now I've just got too many ladies popping off at once!

I'm thinking the first clue that I would end up where I am would have been all the eggs my parents inadvertently sat on because 3 year old me was trying to hatch them by keeping them warm under blankets and pillows all over the house...

I had a surprise visitor this morning!!! (No, she's not mine, I didn't get pigs yet, I swear!)

This little kune kune girl is a runt, but still somehow managed to get stuck inside mama! Her front leg was all swollen and bent funny but it's getting better as she gets older! But the ways of nature sometimes aren't kind and her mama rejected her. She'll be ok though because she's going to be living on the farm Parsley, Deedlit and Teddy call home! 😍

Omg she is sooo tiny!!!

Name is still being kicked around but I'm sure you guys will see more of her when I visit their farm from time to time!

The new crew has settled in nicely! They are already starting to lay for me! The light tan came from a Wyandotte and the medium dark brown came from what I think must be some sort of Marans cross. :)

The predator attacks took so much of my flock. Mainly because the young ones just refused to sleep in the coop. Every time I opened up the coop to feed or water they would all flood out. Then they would roost up in the trees like idiots. Smh. Usually if you lock them in the coop for a few days they realize that's where they are supposed to go, but not these girls. Eventually those dumb dumbs pied pipered most of the flock right into the bobcats mouth before they themselves got caught.

I managed to fix this issue once the electric fence was set up by clipping the wings of the remaining birds. Now they can't get outside the protection of the fence but they still get to feel like they are free ranging and scratch in the dirt and eat bugs and plants. And since they can't go up in the trees they go back to the coop at night. I wish I had come up with this sooner!

Last week a realtor friend of mine had a deal where the seller was supposed to take their chickens with them when they moved. But when the buyers showed up to move in, there were 25 chickens roaming around the front yard! They weren't ready for chickens themselves just yet and we're giving them away! So here we are, a ready made flock of some very pretty birds! (I didn't take all 25, just 15!) Some of them will go join my friend's little flock in Maine once we expand her run soon! Clipped all their flight feathers and they are enjoying the safe space inside the fence. I haven't lost a single bird since making this change!

Happy goats enjoying their extra space! Astrid is in there for the first time today as well. I added some new chickens last week and wanted them to get used to the space and seeing Astrid outside of the fence before I put her in with them. It's just been a quiet and peaceful Saturday. 😍

Well, the Dove x Jupiter love story may not have a happy ending. Despite about a hundred jumps Jupiter just couldn't get the job done. Not sure why as he had success with Cleo, Honey, Blue and eventually Sugar... Even gave him a platform to help him reach although I'm not sure that was the issue.

Looks like Dove will just have to be bred to Rebel instead. Too bad cuz Jupiter is one handsome guy...

Today was going to be my painting day for the kitchen but I didn't realize my visit to the eye doctor was going to leave my eyes so blurry and with such a headache! So I'm resting with the sunglasses on until the dilation is back to normal.

But I feel a sense of victory today! I've told so many doctors since I was a kid that I had double vision and lights were weird and I was always told I had perfect 20/20 vision. And yes, far away or up close everything is sharp and clear. But there is always a ghost image above and slightly to the right! This doctor did some extra tests beyond the initial "can you read this" exam, like no doctor ever bothered to do. And what do you know? I have "significant" astigmatism. So in a few weeks I will finally have glasses! I can't wait!!!

Had my call with the tax assessment people and practically got laughed at, but they did agree to send someone out to walk through their process. Guess what? They dropped the pallet buck house off the card, and downgraded the addition from what they said initially was perfectly liveable space to basically a storage shed. They also downgraded the value of the goat barn and chicken coop. Property card will now show a 780 SQ ft 2 bed 1 bath instead of what they determined at a quick glance was a 1400 square ft 3 bed 2 bath.

Turns out you can fight city hall. Here's a chicken cuz... Chicken.
