11:00 AM update: data coming in not so hot on storms ramping up. Showers will be likelier with just a few thunderstorms

The Saturday storm threat is still on track, and the latest data continues to favor storms spreading into eastern Oklahoma through this morning and afternoon.

The atmosphere is loaded with heat and instability, so any organized cluster of storms could produce damaging wind gusts over 60 mph. Large hail around quarter size is also possible. (National Weather Service⁠)

The exact evolution and track of these storms remains a little messy, but I do think we need to pay attention today. The Tulsa area is definitely in play.

The good news? Where storms and clouds hang around, temperatures could be held down a bit.

Sorry for the no post folks I’m currently living in Tahlequah helping take care of my Grandpa. Hope everyone is alright! These summer thunderstorms can be pretty tough to predict vs spring like systems think of it as a pot of boiling water (the pop-up effect, or pulse) it is the sudden, isolated appearance of brief, heavy downpours. They form rapidly from intense daytime heat, stay nearly stationary and you can get what they call a microburst. A microburst is a localized column of sinking air (downdraft) within a thunderstorm and is usually less than or equal to 2.5 miles in diameter. Microbursts can cause extensive damage at the surface, and in some instances, can be life-threatening. There are two primary types of microbursts: 1) wet microbursts and 2) dry microbursts. Wet microbursts are accompanied by significant precipitation and are common in the Southeast during the summer months.
