I stayed quiet because I believed the laws that were in place gave me some sense of safety. Then those protections changed. Finding out that the person who abused me, Rodney Paul Tacey Jr., had been removed from Michigan’s public offender registry brought a lot back for me. It made me realize how much of my silence had been tied to the belief that the system would continue to protect me.

I don’t need revenge. I don’t want anyone confronting anyone on my behalf. I just want to have a voice. And for years I protected myself by staying quiet. Now I’m choosing to protect myself by speaking.
