When I started this project, I knew I'd discover all sorts of vintage-inspired people, places and things. What I wasn't expecting was to discover the abundance of female entrepreneurs in the scene. Knowing that women still have to work through misogyny, sexual harassment, impossible double-standards, and unequal pay, it's so encouraging to see the women who have made the decision to take matters into their own hands, pursue their passions and start their own businesses. It's been an absolute honor to get to know these women and their stories, and I think it would be mighty swell if we helped promote their businesses. So, without further ado, I introduce the newest Nostalgia Etc. addition: Lady Boss Limelight
We're gonna start this out with someone who was first described to me by (the also inspiring) Miss Tammi Savoy, as a "Lady Boss for real", and as you may have guessed, was the initial inspiration for this Limelight concept: Beck Rustic
Owner of Swelltune Records, organizer of the famous New England Shake-Up, and this weekend's Swelltune Records presents: Shake a Leg!, Beck does it all (including graphic design, which she freelances as well). Loved by musicians and listeners alike, Beck has become a well-recognized and respected individual in the retro community. She'll be featured on the upcoming website (yes, that's still happening), but in the meantime, consider supporting her in some (or all) of these ways:
