I have long chosen silence, out of respect, because I value the deep cultural ties and friendships between our people. But right now, Thailand has now crossed the red lines, and the world deserves to know the aggression and ill-political willingness of the Thai government.
What happened?
On May 29, 2025, Thai soldiers provocatively initiated the attack on the Cambodian trench within Cambodian territory, resulting in the death of a Cambodian soldier. And as of July 24, 2025, this morning. They began the attacks on Cambodia, for which we have every right to take counteroffensive measures. Before this was escalated, Cambodia took issue with diplomatic maturity, filing the complaint to the International Court of Justice and seeking legal and formal grounds for dispute settlement, whereas Thailand refused to respect the institution’s jurisdiction. Cambodia respects the international justice and legal framework, whereas Thailand is scared of the light of it. Why? Out of fear or lessons learned from the past ICJ rulings in 1962 and 2011, where Thailand never once took the case back home? It’s understandable that a thief can’t face due process or trial; it would be stupid of them to do so.
The contradiction with the United Nations Charter
Thailand may try to hide behind procedural technicalities to reject ICJ jurisdiction, but Thailand must comply with the international law and the UN principles as a UN member. Yet, it seems like they fail to understand the core principle of the UN, including maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, and promoting cooperation in solving international problems. Thailand has failed to understand the very fundamental concept of international law, which, unsurprisingly, pushes them to behave aggressively and provocatively. The UN Charter article 2 (4) clearly mentions, “All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.” It seems Thai leaders can’t understand this at all.
Desire for peace but Op for war?
Thailand is not committing an act of self-defense; it is provoking, destabilizing, and threatening. The offensive approach, fake media propaganda, and coercive diplomacy have been deployed by Thailand. Thailand unilaterally closed the border without prior notice to the Cambodian authority; they threaten to cut the supplies (which they don’t have to because we cut if ourselves; we simply don’t care), and the Thai military keep fueling the tension,, and some Thai politicians made remarks on how he would seize Cambodia if he came to power and that he is the ideal leader they want to lead their nation. You tell me if this is the behavior of someone who shamelessly pretends to call for peace yet makes baseless claims, rejects international law, and even expels Cambodian diplomats. It sounds like they want peace, but realistically, THEY WANT A PIECE (of our sovereignty). If you truly and purely want peace, why don’t we solve it like a responsible and sensible country and take it to the court? Lack of capable lawyers or something?
Let's also talk about the Ghost Mountain in Preah Vihea, also known as Cambodia's second genocide.
This is what Thailand doesn’t want the world to know, but let me reveal it. After the Khmer Rouge collapsed in 1979, most of Cambodia fled to the border with Thailand seeking support and humanitarian relief in the hope of a new life after going through the genocide. Many sought refuge in Thailand only to be forcibly returned back to Cambodia. Cambodia was forced brutally by the Thai soldier, and they refused; they would get killed on the campsite. Most people refused to get on the truck, so Thai soldiers threw babies on the trucks, and eventually the parents crawled onto the trucks for their babies; families were being separated. Could you ever imagine what Cambodia have gone through? Living in genocide for 3 years and finally finding the light, yet the world brought darkness again. 40000 Cambodian people were forced to go to the top of a mountain in Preah Vihea province, which is known as the ghost mountain now. These people were gun-pointed by Thai soldiers to climb down the hills from the top of mountains and walked through the jungles for months without food and water, and some were shot dead by Thai soldiers. Down the hill was heavily mined, which Thailand was aware of. Tragically, 15000 people died because of the inhuman act of Thailand. What the world MUST know
Cambodia seeks peace, preserving our sovereignty and our territorial integrity. Since our independence in 1953, Cambodia has never once caused any coercion to any country, yet her neighbor always did that. We seek a legal group, justice, and due process for dispute resolutions. The fellow Thai government, on the other hand, seeks violence, war, and coercion in all aspects economically, politically, and diplomatically. They reject the principle of the UN and international laws in which they are one of the members. They undermined the value of ASEAN principles. The world must know their evil intention. and their starvation for Cambodian territory and sovereignty. Yes, we are smaller and less militarily advanced, but we will fight and defend our people, nation, and sovereignty.
The world must not be fooled by their rhetoric. The world must not stand silent.
