Remembering Frank Coady

This weekend, the towing community and the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts, said goodbye to Frank Coady, owner of Coady’s Garage & Towing Service, who passed away at 74.

Tow trucks lined yo with their lights flashing, police stood by, and a lone bagpiper played as Frank’s procession passed the business he built from the ground up.

Frank wasn’t just known for his decades of leadership in towing, but for his heart. Whether it was helping a stranded motorist, offering warmth and coffee during a storm, or quietly giving back to veterans and those in need, Frank lived to serve others.

Last year, he was inducted into the International Towing & Recovery Hall of Fame, honoring over 50 years of innovation, hard work, and generosity.

As one friend said, “There aren’t many people left like Frank.”

A Butterfly for Jason

This past weekend marked National Move Over Day, a time to remind drivers to slow down and move over for roadside workers.

Behind Twisted Scissorz Salon in Port Huron, Michigan, a bright butterfly mural honors the memory of towman Jason Schultz, who was killed while helping a stranded driver in 2016. Created by local artist April Cutler, the mural serves as a lasting tribute and a reminder of the importance of protecting those who work along our roadways.

As Jason’s sister, Jenn Sharpe, prepares to commission a second mural for the 10th anniversary of his passing, she hopes his story continues to raise awareness and save lives.

🔥 The high-energy Naptown Brass Band, known for its New Orleans flair, will be playing at Festival Night (FN), Saturday, Nov. 22, 6 p.m., during AT Expo in Baltimore, 2025. Also featured :Cecil Burrowes performing his reggae hit "Over the Hills." 🔥

Towing’s legendary event will thrill Festival Night goers with heroic stories ranging from high-explosive risk to braving fires, as towmen are awarded the American Towman Medal.

The Festival Night Dinner will feature surf and turf fare, including the Renaissance Hotel’s famous jumbo-lump crab cakes. FN ticket holders will also be entitled to Sunday’s Breakfast of Champions (full brunch) at the Renaissance.

New Award Categories Coming to the American Wrecker Pageant!

This year’s American Wrecker Pageant (Nov. 20–22, 2025, in Baltimore) is turning up the shine! For the first time ever, judges will recognize both Best Wrapped Wrecker and Best Custom Paint Job.

We’re thrilled to announce that American Towman editor Steve Temple—a veteran of custom car magazines and paint competitions—will judge the Best Airbrushed Truck category.

All traditional wrecker classes remain, and attendees will once again vote for the “Best in Show” winner.
