🇺🇸 I’M OFFICIALLY A U.S. CITIZEN! 🇺🇸
Today is a day I will never forget.
Back in 2019, my husband and I filed my K-1 fiancé visa petition. At that time, the process typically took around 6 months. We were excited and hopeful, thinking we would be together soon. But then the pandemic happened. Immigration offices and processing centers shut down, interviews were canceled, and what should have been a 6-month process turned into a 2.5-year wait.
Those years were not easy. We spent countless days wondering when we would finally get approved, checking updates, dealing with delays, and trying to stay positive despite all the uncertainty. Long-distance relationships are already difficult, and the waiting made it even harder.
Finally, after what felt like forever, my visa was approved and I arrived in the United States in July 2022. It was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. We got married, built our life together, welcomed new experiences, and continued the immigration journey by applying for Adjustment of Status. Later, I received my Green Card and continued working toward the next milestone.
Today, after years of paperwork, waiting, sacrifices, patience, and determination, I proudly took my Oath of Allegiance and became a United States citizen.
I know some people think immigrating is easy, but the truth is that it isn’t. There is no shortcut. It requires patience, resilience, commitment, and a significant financial investment. There were moments of frustration, moments of doubt, and moments when the finish line seemed so far away. But we kept going.
One thing I am especially proud of is that my husband and I completed this entire immigration journey ourselves. We did not hire an attorney or use a visa service. We spent countless hours researching, reading instructions, joining support groups, and making sure every form was completed correctly. It wasn’t always easy, but we trusted ourselves and stayed committed to the process.
This journey has taught me so much about perseverance, gratitude, and never giving up on your dreams. Looking back, every delay, every challenge, and every obstacle made this moment even more meaningful.
To everyone who is still waiting for a visa, a Green Card, or citizenship—don’t lose hope. I know how difficult the waiting can be, but your day will come too. Keep believing, keep pushing forward, and trust the process.
