The night that broke me didn't begin with a fight.

My husband came home, ate dinner, took his bath, and quietly lay down beside me. We slept on the same bed, but it felt like there was a wall between us.

Around 2:17 a.m., I woke up and noticed the light from his phone under the blanket. He was smiling.

Curious, I gently turned over. Before he noticed I was awake, I caught a glimpse of the message on his screen:

I can't wait to see you tomorrow. I miss sleeping beside you.

My heart stopped.

The man who hadn't held me in months was giving his affection to someone else.

I didn't scream. I didn't cry. I simply turned my back, closed my eyes, and let the tears fall silently onto my pillow.

The next morning, he acted as if nothing had happened. He smiled, ate breakfast, and left for work.

He has no idea that I already know.
