Should india allow Talibani diplomatic representation in New Delhi? (More on www.Instagram.com/contactriki).
The Afghan embassy in New Delhi is still staffed by diplomats appointed by the Ashraf Ghani government and new Talibani government in Afghanistan would like to change that and appoint their diplomat. Recently India announced $24.3 million (Rs 200 crore) for Afghanistan in the Union Budget 2023-24. Humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power, India has delivered, 60 tonnes of medicines, 40,000 metric tonnes of wheat, 5,00,000 Covid vaccines, winter clothing, and 28 tonnes of disaster relief to the country. Although it might seem like a good political move for India to continue moving forward, amid Talibans deteriorating relations with Pakistan but here is the moral dilemma, the recognition to a regime that is known for its disregard for human rights, oppression of women, democracy, and inclusivity would not only be a violation of India's values and principles but would also set a dangerous precedent for other countries that may be tempted to support the Taliban regime. India has always been a strong advocate for democratic values, human rights, and the rule of law. Allowing Taliban to take over the Afghan embassy in New Delhi would send a message that India is willing to compromise on these values in pursuit of diplomatic expediency. As for the matter of Kashmir an year ago Taliban announced that Kashmir is Indiaās internal problem. But when you allow gun-toting, misogynistic gangsters and criminals to take up homes in your own neighborhood, can you really believe that they will stay away from your family and cause you no trouble?
