Happy True Crime Fact Friday, Everyone!

Did you know that David Berkowitz asked NOT to be released from prison? You’d assume that he’s afraid that he will kill again after his release, however, when asked if he has changed while in prison, he responded saying, “I am no risk whatsoever.”

He’s been referred to as a model prisoner and graduated with honors from a community college. He counseled fellow prisoners and changed his name to the “Son of Hope” in 1987 after converting to evangelical Christianity.

Happy TCFF Day!

Today’s fact is one that still haunts people across the nation to this day.

In a span of three days beginning on Sept. 29, 1982, seven people, including a 12-year-old girl, who took cyanide-laced Tylenol in the Chicago area died, triggering a nationwide recall of the product.

The poisonings led to the adoption of tamperproof packaging for over-the-counter medications.

No suspect has been charged or convicted of the poisonings, but New York City resident James William Lewis was convicted of extortion for sending a letter to Tylenol's manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson, that took responsibility for the deaths and demanded $1 million to stop them.

There were several more deaths in subsequent copycat crimes.
