The energetic young mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, recently joined NPR's Newsmakers. In the historic Blue Room of City Hall, underneath a portrait of Alexander Hamilton, he tallied a list of the key achievements he's made in his first 100 days in office.

- "On day eight, we delivered $1.2 billion to make universal child care a reality across our city."

- "We secured more than $30 million in settlements with bad landlords, [and] repaired more than 6069 apartments."

- "We were able to secure nearly $100,000 a day for workers and small businesses that had been exploited by mega-corporations and delivery apps."

- "And we showed that the government can do all of these big transformative things while also doing the little things … filling in 102,000 potholes in that same length of time."

Surely you've noticed that everything feels like a casino now. Thanks to prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi, users now have the freedom to bet on literally anything that comes to mind. Will Lady Gaga sing at the Super Bowl? What words will Trump say in his next speech? Or worse… which world leader gets assassinated next?

NPR's tech reporter returns to It's Been a Minute in an episode that unpacks the wild west of prediction markets, and what unfettered access to this industry could do to us as a culture. 🔗

Since last year’s rescission of $1 billion in funding for public media, we’ve been thinking about how some of the structures around NPR might change. But the need for reliable, trustworthy, and locally-rooted journalism won’t.

We’ve taken NPR’s three letters and flipped them into "how," "who," and "why" — the three-letter questions that represent what journalism seeks to answer. It’s our declaration that we won’t be silenced, and we’ll never stop fighting for the American right to stay curious.

We’ll still provide you the context you need to explore the world through the 240 NPR Member stations that foster curiosity in communities in every corner of America. We’ll pledge to keep asking questions, and keep you informed.

We’re not going anywhere, because your curiosity is a right worth defending.

Part of the fun of reality TV is, of course, the nuclear-grade drama that makes its way into basically every show. But the other great thing about reality TV is putting yourself in the shoes of the people you're watching. Would you make a great Real Housewife? Think you could win The Amazing Race?

In an encore episode of Pop Culture Happy Hour, they're not here to make friends. They're here to pick the reality shows that they think could thrive on. It begs the question...what show would you conquer?

If you're reading this, it means you're on Instagram. Which is fine if you want to be. But do you really want to be scrolling? Or would you rather, as the kids say, be touching grass? If your answer is the latter, flip through these steps to get off your phone and back into the real world. Link in bio for the full Life Kit episode.

If curiosity is the fuel of a functioning democracy, then American institutions like NPR are built to keep democracy alive. Questions as big and small as “How?” “Who?” and “Why?” are the seed of all our stories — and at the heart of what it means to be curious.

This month, we’ve replaced the three letters in our name with the three-letter questions to remind us why curiosity is a right worth protecting. It’s a pledge to continue to provide the trusted context you need to explore the world, keep listening, and asking the hard questions.

Take your curiosity further by reading more about our campaign at the link in our bio.

According to a report from the National Restaurant Association, around 60% of both millennials and Gen Z say food delivery is an essential part of their lifestyles.
