Throwback to 2014 when I had the awesome opportunity to be a Google Chrome educator at George Washington University! 💻
We were on a mission to change the perception that Chromebooks were just 'simple' laptops. I remember having a conversation with a computer science student, explaining how software development would eventually move to the cloud and Chromebooks would be at the forefront.
Back in 2011, the most popular Chromebook was the Samsung Series 5, known for its sleek design and impressive battery life (for the time!). But compared to today's Chromebooks, it was a different world!
Fast forward to 2024, and it's amazing to see that vision come to life! Chromebooks have undergone a massive transformation:
📅 In 2011: Mostly just web browsing, limited offline access, and basic apps.
📆 In 2024: Full operating systems (Chrome OS and Linux!), robust offline functionality, Android apps like LumaFusion, and even powerful web-based development tools like Google Cloud Shell, Visual Studio Code, and Project IDX!
And let's not forget those stunning Chromebook Plus devices with their incredible displays, detachable keyboards, and stylus support! They're basically tablets AND laptops in one.
Fun fact: My wife and I both daily drive Pixelbook Go laptops – hers is a lovely shade of pink, while mine is a classic matte black. It's like the yin and yang of our tech setup! 😂
