The biggest indication that you have conquered is when the thing that once had the power to disrupt you can happen again, and you realize it no longer has access to the same version of you.

โ€œIf Iโ€™m an option, donโ€™t pick meโ€ has become one of my most viral poems, and with that has come a lot of conversation around the opening line. One thing Iโ€™ve seen repeatedly is, โ€œAt some point, everybody is an option.โ€

That interpretation misses what the poem is actually saying in its full ENTIRETYโ€ฆ. This poem requires one to divulge past the surface.

The poem was never about expecting someone to meet you and immediately know that you are the person they want. Of course people have choicesโ€ฆ.dating and relationships require discernment, time, conversation, observation and the opportunity to determine whether two people are actually compatible.

But there is a difference between someone having options and someone continuing to treat you like one.

โ€œIf Iโ€™m an option, donโ€™t pick meโ€ speaks to what happens when someone has experienced enough of you to know who you are, how you love, what you offer, how you show up and what your presence brings into their life, yet they still keep you sitting on the bench of their indecision while comparing you to whoever else may be available.

That is why I wrote, โ€œDonโ€™t you weigh me on a scale of convenience, or rationalize why another option might serve you better.โ€

You are allowed to take your time getting to know others, you are allowed to decide that a person is not for you, and you are even allowed to choose someone else.

What I am saying is that a person is equally allowed to decide that they will not remain somewhere they are perpetually being considered.

There are seasons where โ€œmaybeโ€ is reasonable, but eventually, maybe becomes an answer of its own.

So no, the poem does not mean that people should never have options.

It means that once you have experienced enough of me to know what I bring into your life, if you still need to continuously weigh me against somebody else, donโ€™t pick me.

I would rather be released with certainty than retained through indecision.

It went over some peopleโ€™s headโ€ฆ and as the author, I feel itโ€™s also my right to explain it fully.

With love,
Lisa Marie

Withholding acknowledgment wonโ€™t derail someone elseโ€™s success.

What is meant to grow will continue growing whether certain people clap for it or not, and what God has placed His hands on has never required everybody else to put theirs together.

Friday, we closed out the 4th and final sold-out Atlanta show, and when I say the culmination of the energy from each show reminded me of how beautiful peopleโ€™s souls really are, I mean that with everything in me.

Atlanta was the beginning. The first place I walked onto a stage with this show and trusted that what lived inside of me would find the people it was meant to reach. I could have never imagined that one night would turn into another, and another, and anotherโ€ฆ four sold-out experiences filled with people who came with their own stories, their own healing, their own laughter, their own grief, their own love, and we kept meeting each other right there in the middle of it all.

What you see on that stage is poetry, storytelling, laughter and conversation, but what I experience from where I stand is human connection. I see the tears, I hear the reflections, strangers laugh together, hug each other, reach for one another, and for a few hours whatever existed outside of that room seems to disappear.

The room was FULLโ€ฆ.

Full of love, vulnerability, people willing to feel something, and reminders that no matter how disconnected this world can sometimes make us feel, there are still spaces where we can look across a room at someone we have never met and recognize a little bit of ourselves in them.

I have tried to find adequate words for what Atlanta has given me through these four shows, and gratitude still feels like the closest one.

Thank you for trusting me with your stories.

Thank you for every hug, every tear, every laugh, every hand raised, every person who traveled, every person who brought somebody they loved, every person who came alone and left feeling like they had been sitting with family.

I donโ€™t take one seat, one person, one prayer, or one moment of it for granted.

Atlanta, you were the beginning of something I didnโ€™t know how to imagine โ€ฆ.

And babyโ€ฆ look at what God did with the beginning. โค๏ธ

Many of you feel like youโ€™re being punished when you try to do the same things you see everyone else doing. You watch other people walk into situations and seemingly leave unblemished and unpaused, while every time you try it, youโ€™re met with consequence after consequence, interruption after interruption, and another reminder that certain things simply do not work for you.

Instead of assuming that God is punishing you, Iโ€™d like to counter that thinking and tell you that perhaps God is protecting you.

Just like parents become disappointed when their children move outside of the morals and values theyโ€™ve taught them, sometimes God has a way of showing you that you were never created to comfortably exist outside of what He has for you. What seems to work for everybody else may continuously fall apart in your hands because your life requires a different level of obedience, and there are places God refuses to let you settle simply because other people appear to be surviving there.

You are not being punished, you are being positioned.

Some things will never be allowed to feel comfortable when they are pulling you further away from where youโ€™re supposed to be. Some doors will keep closing, some connections will keep breaking, and some situations will keep becoming uncomfortable until you recognize that maybe the disruption itself is direction.

How does it feel to know that God loves you so much that He will sn**ch you back every single time you start moving outside of His will instead of simply letting you stay there?

Maybe what youโ€™ve been calling punishment was God refusing to leave you somewhere He already knew you didnโ€™t belong.
