Did you know you can (and should) register your out of country trips with the State Department through their Smart Traveler Enrollment Program? This way, if something goes down, they know that you, a US citizen, are in that country and you will be alerted.
I registered our upcoming trip to Morocco and received an email in the middle of the night informing me of the earthquake. While my trip hasn’t started (yet they know our dates), it was great to get this information straight from the State Department. The email provided the nearest consulate and embassy locations and phone numbers for assistance, and things to do and consider.
Still considering our options for cancellation, if that’s what we decide to do. Having travel insurance helps … it’s also a MUST!
Did you know that if you’re frequent travelers like we are, you can buy an annual travel insurance plan that covers ALL trips for a one-year period? I just found that out this year!!! I like that our plan covers rental cars, so you don’t have to buy the rental car’s expensive coverage or involve your insurance company in the event of an accident.
Anyway, just some travel insight for thought. 🌺
