Savage Mode 2
Not many artists in rap live up to the characters they portray in their music. Most are sub-par squeaky-voiced teenage child actors who live a wannabe gangsta lifestyle and are geniuses in marketing themselves because of it (Industry Plants), but few are really from the places they speak of.
Over time, usually, even the "Real Ones" slowly change, due mostly in part to their difference in lifestyle that comes as a result of their newly acquired wealth. Surprisingly, however, 21 Savage has been able to maintain his character and live up to what he raps. Practicing what he preaches, he has managed to keep his character intact while never forgetting where he's come from. Savage Mode 2 is a tribute to 21 Savage's and Metro Boomin's continued success within the music industry and refusal to give up on their past life's characters while pushing progression and futurism within rap.
Savage Mode was a collaborative mixtape by Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage and American record producer Metro Boomin. It was released in 2016 on SoundCloud and Savage Mode 2 (the album) is the sequel to that mixtape. Savage Mode 2 is a cinematic themed composition produced by the genius that is Metro Boomin and written by the author of the streets 21 Savage. The album has a dark, slow-moving, nightcrawler vibe to it and the theme of the album is "Kill or Be Killed", it pushes that narrative effortlessly. There are narrations from the great Morgan Freeman and features from the likes of Drake, Young Thug, and Young Nudy. However, what we love most about the album is that even with the great features, it doesn't seem flooded and fluffed. The album is more of a one-on-one discussion between its listeners and 21 Savage and because 21 Savage is so believable, the album is very captivating.
