In a moving ceremony on 9-11-26 at Knollwood, residents and team members gathered to honor and respect the current and former civic and military leaders who served our country.

Together, we released butterflies sending forth on their beautiful and delicate wings our hopes, wishes and prayers that those who lead our nation today, regardless of their religious beliefs, remember the efforts, sacrifices and losses of those who came before them - and understand the power of releasing hope, joy and peace into the world.

May these simple acts of remembrance and reflection inspire harmony, unity, and peaceful co-existence among all people.

In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, Knollwood invited residents to reflect on what the country has meant throughout their lives.

For the Knollwood Story Contest, residents responded to the prompt: “Share a story that reflects what ‘America’ means to you through your life experiences, your journey to Knollwood, or the community you have found here.”

Vivian Lowery Derryck’s essay, “The Freedom We Inherited – and the Responsibility We Share,” was also selected as the closing essay for the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative Social Impact Review’s USA 250th Anniversary celebration. The published piece highlights Vivian’s reflections and her connection to the Knollwood community.
