**I'M NOT PRETTY ENOUGH... 💔🥺**

There was a time when I believed I was simply someone people would never notice.

Not because anyone said I was ugly.

Not because someone laughed at me.

But because, somehow, I always felt invisible.

The train had been gone 4 hours. She stood on the platform at Hartwell with her carpet bag at her feet and her hat pinned tight against a wind that smelled of dust and creosote. The platform was wooden and narrow, weathered to the color of old bone. Beyond it, the main street of Hartwell stretched in both directions.

The general store, the telegraph office, the saloon with its batwing doors standing open to the May heat. A boardwalk ran the length of it and not a soul was on it now except a boy leading a mare toward the livery. She had counted her money twice on the train, $14.60. Enough for a room at the boarding house, maybe two nights if she didn’t eat.

Enough for a plate of food if the boarding house wouldn’t take her without payment up front. The woman who’d driven the wagon from the station had explained it on the way. Mrs. Porter ran a tight operation, no credit, no exceptions. The town knew why she was here. Word traveled faster than trains out west and a woman arriving alone on the afternoon car from the east wearing a dress too thin for the territory and carrying everything she owned in one bag...
