"I married a café waitress just to push back against my controlling parents — but on our wedding night, she caught me off guard with a strange warning:
“Promise me you won’t scream when I show you something.”
My parents were extremely wealthy, the type who believed their money entitled them to dictate every part of my life — especially my choice of a wife.
When I turned thirty, they gave me a blunt ultimatum.
“If you’re not married by thirty-one,” my father said calmly over dinner, “you’re cut out of the will.”
For years, they set me up with the daughters of their affluent friends — flawless, polished women who always seemed more interested in my family’s wealth than in me. None of it ever felt real.
Then, just two months before my thirty-first birthday, I found myself sitting alone in a small downtown café. The waitress serving me stood out immediately. She was genuine, warm, and nothing like the women my parents kept trying to match me with.
