The 9 p.m. hour on July 4 was the busiest hour of the year for DC’s 911 system, highlighting the enormous demand placed on first responders during the District’s largest annual celebration.

Vehicle fire on 8th Street was quickly extinguished by Engine 4. One person was seen outside the vehicle and appeared visibly upset, but no information on injuries or the cause of the fire has been released at this time. Developing story.

Saturday night violence in Southwest D.C. left one man injured after a shooting outside King-Greenleaf Recreation Center.

Officers responded to the 200 block of N Street SW and later located the victim nearby on M Street SW. The injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Just 5 minutes before the Fourth of July juvenile curfew takes effect, crowds continue to fill one of D.C.’s busiest waterfront districts. MPD established a temporary curfew zone for the holiday weekend, restricting groups of nine or more people under 18 from gathering in the area between 8 PM and midnight.
