Matthew 9:36 (NIV):
"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd."
This image captures a truth found throughout the Gospels. Jesus does not turn away from those who are broken. He moves toward them with compassion, bringing comfort where there is pain and hope where there is despair.
The Greek word splagchnizomai means to be moved with deep compassion—a feeling so profound that it comes from the very depths of one's being. Whenever the Gospels use this word of Jesus, it reveals that His mercy is active. He does not merely notice suffering; He responds to it.
Look at this image. Jesus gently placing His hand on a grieving woman, not as a distant observer, but as the One who understands every silent tear. His touch speaks of peace, healing, and a love that reaches hearts no one else can fully see.
Some of you are carrying burdens you have never spoken aloud. Jesus already knows them. His compassion is not earned by our strength but given freely through His grace. Even in our weakest moments, His presence remains faithful.
Spiritual opinion: I believe Matthew 9:36 reveals the heart of Christ more clearly than almost any other passage. His compassion is never passive—it moves Him toward the hurting, reminding us that no prayer is too small and no wound is beyond His care.
