In a major medical breakthrough, a Chinese surgical team has successfully completed the world’s first remote robotic prostate surgery across continents—linking Rome to Beijing in real time.

Dr. Zhang Xu, head of urology at PLA General Hospital, controlled a robotic system from Italy, while robotic arms in China performed the procedure on a patient located over 8,000 kilometers (5,000 miles) away.

The operation was made possible using high-speed 5G and fiber-optic networks, proving that telesurgery can break geographical barriers in healthcare.

A backup team in Beijing ensured safety, but the success of the operation shows a future where specialized surgeries can happen anywhere in the world, especially in remote or underserved areas.
