The Monks’ Walk for Universal Peace made its historic arrival in D.C. today, passing by the National Cathedral after a journey that began months ago in Fort Worth, Texas. Their mission isn’t just about “raising awareness,” it’s about “unlocking the box” of peace that already exists within us. Using mindfulness as their key, the monks reminded us that peace isn’t something to be found in the distance, but in the simplicity of each breath going in and out. As they told the large crowd gathered outside the National Cathedral, this practice isn’t tied to any one religion; it’s a universal tool for every being to help make the world a better place.

The 35-year-old D.C. International School (DCI) teacher, John Gass, reportedly climbed into a 16-year-old student's bedroom on multiple occasions before assaulting the student. In recent news, several sources have mistakenly named WIS instead of nearby DCI in their live reporting of the event.

Just an hour ago, Upper School principal Francesca Mulazzi informed students and parents about a significant change to the WIS Upper School grading process. The update revises the boundaries for Honors recognition, reducing the percentage of students eligible by roughly 70%. Faculty noted that “perhaps too many students were receiving First or Second Honors, and that it reduced the value and meaning of the recognition.”

Major concern exists among students, with just four weeks left in the semester before Semester 1 grades are finalized.

What are your thoughts on this new change?

On a bright spring day at the WIS Primary School, six- and seven-year-olds celebrated an achievement many adults never accomplish: becoming published authors. For these first graders, mastering the fundamentals of reading wasn’t the destination – it was the launching pad for their literary journey.

In the middle of first period on May 27, the loudspeakers crackled to life as senior ISU co-president Anton Jordan shouted into the microphone. His message was about construction: allegedly, there was a new team on campus that would be working to fix problems all throughout the day.
Students were warned to avoid areas marked with yellow construction tape and report any unsupervised sites. This new team was made up of WIS seniors only – a crew bent on wreaking havoc and pranking the school halls.
Senior Spirit Day was filled with energy and construction chaos. Read more about this exciting day on our website. Link in bio!

From China to Austria to Peru, WIS’ International Day, held on April 10, brought pieces of the world to the Academic Walkway. The voyage around the globe provided WIS students with the opportunity to highlight and learn about several cultures represented among the community.

Junior Victoria Pineda took the initiative to organize this event. Her inspiration came from WIS’ international community, which encouraged her to take pride in her culture. This drove her to want everyone else to have the opportunity to share their unique background.
