Champions League Results: Newcastle Beats PSG 4-1
A surprise occurred on the second matchday of the Champions League which took place Thursday (5/10) early morning WIB. Newcastle United managed to beat Paris Saint Germain 4-1. Saint James Park Stadium roared in the 17th minute after Miguel Almiron managed to open Newcastle's lead when they hosted the French giants. Receiving a loose ball in the penalty box, Almiron coolly completed the opportunity with a left foot shot to put the Magpies 1-0 up.
Instead of scoring a goal in return, PSG's goal was broken for the second time in the 39th minute. This time it was Dan Burn's turn to carve his name on the scoreboard. Dan Burn's goal came from a hard header in front of the goal after welcoming Bruno Guimaraes' cross. The ball was blocked by Gianluigi Donnarumma but the referee approved the goal. In the replay, Donnarumma's hand when making the save had crossed the goal line. Newcastle lead 2-0. Donnarumma couldn't stop Sean Longstaff's close-range shot in the 50th minute. PSG also trailed 0-3 at St James Park. Les Parisiens managed to reduce the deficit to 1-3 through Lucas Hernandez in the 56th minute. This goal seemed to spark Kylian Mbappe et al's motivation to make a comeback. However, PSG struggled to catch up. Newcastle was even able to widen their lead to 4-1 through Fabian Schar's hard shot from outside the penalty box. This result puts Newcastle at the top of Group F with four points. Meanwhile, PSG was relegated to second place with three points.
