Americans remain divided on who will win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Among those likely to follow the tournament, 41% are unsure which country will lift the trophy.

Spain leads predictions with 9%, followed by Argentina and Brazil at 8% each. France and the United States received 7% of responses.

The results point to a highly open tournament in the eyes of American viewers. The leading contenders are separated by only a few percentage points, with no clear favorite emerging from the survey.

The data suggests that Americans expect the race for football’s biggest prize to remain competitive, with several traditional football powers viewed as legitimate contenders ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar recorded the highest audience figures in tournament history. FIFA reported a global reach of approximately 5 billion people, while the final between Argentina and France attracted an estimated 1.5 billion viewers, making it the most-watched football match ever recorded.

Comparisons across World Cup editions require caution due to changes in FIFA’s measurement methodology. Since 2010, FIFA has focused on unique reach, counting each person only once regardless of how many matches they watched.

Before 2010, FIFA reported cumulative audiences, counting viewers multiple times across different matches. Under this methodology, the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany generated the highest total audience, with approximately 26.29 billion cumulative views across all 64 matches.

As Pope Leo XIV arrives in Barcelona on Wednesday, the world’s tallest church is preparing for a historic moment.

The pontiff will celebrate Mass at the Sagrada Familia and inaugurate the Tower of Jesus Christ, the central spire that brings Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece to its final height of 172.5 meters.

With the completion of the tower, the Sagrada Familia now ranks as the tallest church in the world, surpassing Germany’s Ulm Minster (161.5 m) and Côte d’Ivoire’s Basilica of Our Lady of Peace (158.0 m).

Construction of the basilica began in 1882 and has continued for more than 140 years. Its completion links two eras of Church history: the first stone was laid during the pontificate of Pope Leo XIII, while Pope Leo XIV now visits as the structure reaches its defining architectural milestone.

The visit also includes a stop at the Abbey of Montserrat, one of Catalonia’s most important religious sites, underscoring the significance of the region in both Spain’s cultural heritage and the Catholic tradition.

The world’s tallest churches are concentrated in Europe, which accounts for 9 of the 10 tallest church buildings on the list. Spain, Germany and France alone contribute 6 entries.

According to the latest US Census Bureau data, the share of adults aged 25 and older holding a bachelor’s degree or higher ranges from nearly half of the adult population in some states to less than one-quarter in others.

Massachusetts ranks as the most educated state in the country by this measure, with almost 50% of adults aged 25 and over holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. The state also leads the nation in advanced education, with 22.6% of adults possessing a graduate or professional degree.

Colorado follows in second place for bachelor’s degree attainment, and Vermont ranks third nationally. Vermont also records one of the strongest concentrations of advanced education, with more than 19% of adults holding graduate or professional degrees. Maryland stands out for its highly educated workforce, ranking second nationwide in graduate and professional degree attainment at 21.5%, and New Jersey also places among the leading states for advanced academic qualifications.

The highest-ranking states share a common characteristic: a large concentration of universities, research institutions, and knowledge-based industries that employ workers with advanced educational credentials. These factors contribute to a larger proportion of residents pursuing bachelor’s, graduate, and professional degrees.

At the other end of the ranking, West Virginia records the lowest share of adults with a bachelor’s degree or higher. The state also has the smallest percentage of graduate or professional degree holders, at 9.6%. Mississippi ranks second-lowest for bachelor’s attainment, despite maintaining one of the country’s highest shares of associate degree holders, with 11.8% of adults aged 25 and over holding this qualification.

According to UN projections, India’s population could reach 1.68 billion by 2050 before gradually declining to 1.51 billion by 2100. China, meanwhile, is projected to fall from 1.26 billion in 2050 to 633 million by the end of the century.

Around 65% of India’s population is under 35, creating one of the world’s largest working-age populations. By 2030, nearly one in five working-age people globally could be Indian.

China faces a different reality. Decades of low fertility, an aging population, and fewer people entering reproductive age are contributing to a sustained population decline. By 2040, people aged 60 and over could account for nearly 28% of the country’s population.

The result is a demographic shift that could influence labor markets, economic growth, consumer demand, and global competitiveness for decades to come.

Roland Garros 2026 has crowned two new Grand Slam champions.

Alexander Zverev and Mirra Andreeva are the new singles champions of the French Open, completing one of the most surprising editions of Roland Garros in recent years.

Today’s men’s final delivered one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament. Zverev started strongly, taking the opening set 6-1, but Cobolli repeatedly fought back to keep the contest alive. After nearly four hours on court, the German prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 to secure the first Grand Slam title of his career. The victory ended years of near-misses, following three previous defeats in Grand Slam finals.

Yesterday, 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva completed her breakthrough run in Paris. She defeated Polish qualifier Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-2 to win her first major title and become the youngest women’s champion at Roland Garros in 34 years. Andreeva first appeared in the Roland Garros main draw in 2023 and has rapidly developed into one of the most exciting players on the WTA Tour.

This year’s tournament also highlighted how quickly tennis continues to evolve.
• Alexander Zverev finally converted years of consistency into a Grand Slam title after previously winning Olympic gold, ATP Finals trophies, and multiple Masters 1000 events.

• Mirra Andreeva became the first player born after 2005 to win a Grand Slam singles title, confirming the arrival of a new generation in women’s tennis.

Their victories add new names to a decade-long list of Roland Garros champions that includes Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Świątek, Coco Gauff, Simona Halep, Barbora Krejčíková, Jeļena Ostapenko and Garbiñe Muguruza.

FIFA World Cup finals between teams from the same continent have accounted for 11 of the tournament’s 22 editions (50%).

Europe dominates this category, with nine all-European finals played between 1934 and 2018. South America accounts for the remaining two finals, both involving Uruguay — against Argentina in 1930 and Brazil in 1950.

UEFA and CONMEBOL remain the only confederations to have produced FIFA World Cup champions, with every World Cup winner in history coming from either Europe or South America.

Ten thousand years ago, forests, shrubs, and wild grasslands blanketed 71% of the Earth’s land surface, approx. 10.6 billion hectares. Today, human activity has dramatically transformed the landscape. Roughly half of this land is now dominated by agriculture, grazing, and urban settlements, leaving forests and natural grasslands covering only 4.1 billion hectares.

Deforestation is accelerating at an alarming pace, with the planet losing forested areas at a rate equivalent to 27 soccer fields every minute. Agriculture is the primary driver, responsible for 80% of global deforestation. Within this, small-scale farmers account for 25%, while commercial agriculture contributes the remaining 75%, highlighting the outsized impact of industrial farming practices.

Timber and wood extraction continue to chip away at forests, particularly in tropical regions, accounting for roughly 15% of forest loss. Infrastructure development—including roads, dams, mining operations, and urban expansion—further pressures ecosystems, contributing 10% of global deforestation.

According to the 2025 Financial Secrecy Index, the United States ranks first with an FSI Value of 2,018 and a Global Scale Weight of 25.54%. Switzerland ranks second with an FSI Value of 1,398, followed by Singapore (1,228), Hong Kong (1,111), and Luxembourg (817).
Among the top ten jurisdictions, Luxembourg accounts for 10.84% of global offshore financial services, while Singapore accounts for 6.10%, Germany 5.21%, and Switzerland 3.70%.

The Financial Secrecy Index (FSI) ranks jurisdictions based on their contribution to global financial secrecy.

The index evaluates two key factors. The first is the Secrecy Score, which measures how much room a jurisdiction’s laws and regulations provide for financial secrecy.

The second is the Global Scale Weight (GSW), which measures the size of a jurisdiction’s offshore financial services sector. Based on IMF data, it represents the share of all offshore financial services provided globally to non-residents.

These two indicators are combined to calculate the Financial Secrecy Index Value (FSI Value), the metric used to rank jurisdictions. A high FSI Value can result from a high level of financial secrecy, a large offshore financial sector, or a combination of both.

The Financial Secrecy Index does not measure the amount of hidden wealth held within a country. It measures the extent to which jurisdictions provide legal and financial structures that can facilitate financial secrecy across borders.

Despite slowing growth rates in many regions, the world’s population is still increasing. Current projections indicate that more than half of all people on Earth live in just seven countries: India, China, the United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Brazil.

Together, India and China account for more than one-third of the global population. Demographic projections indicate differing trajectories for the two countries. India’s population is expected to continue growing until approximately 2062, while China’s population has entered a gradual decline following decades of lower birth rates and an aging population.

Population growth has accelerated dramatically over the past two centuries and the global population continues to expand, with approximately 132 million babies born each year.
