Roland Garros 2026 has crowned two new Grand Slam champions.
Alexander Zverev and Mirra Andreeva are the new singles champions of the French Open, completing one of the most surprising editions of Roland Garros in recent years.
Today’s men’s final delivered one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament. Zverev started strongly, taking the opening set 6-1, but Cobolli repeatedly fought back to keep the contest alive. After nearly four hours on court, the German prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 to secure the first Grand Slam title of his career. The victory ended years of near-misses, following three previous defeats in Grand Slam finals.
Yesterday, 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva completed her breakthrough run in Paris. She defeated Polish qualifier Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-2 to win her first major title and become the youngest women’s champion at Roland Garros in 34 years. Andreeva first appeared in the Roland Garros main draw in 2023 and has rapidly developed into one of the most exciting players on the WTA Tour.
This year’s tournament also highlighted how quickly tennis continues to evolve.
• Alexander Zverev finally converted years of consistency into a Grand Slam title after previously winning Olympic gold, ATP Finals trophies, and multiple Masters 1000 events.
• Mirra Andreeva became the first player born after 2005 to win a Grand Slam singles title, confirming the arrival of a new generation in women’s tennis.
Their victories add new names to a decade-long list of Roland Garros champions that includes Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga ĹšwiÄ…tek, Coco Gauff, Simona Halep, Barbora KrejÄŤĂková, JeÄĽena Ostapenko and Garbiñe Muguruza.
