Elon Musk becomes first person worth $600 billion

Elon Musk has made history after becoming the first person ever to amass a net worth of $600 billion (R10.08 trillion), according to Forbes.

The milestone was reached on Monday amid reports that his private space venture, SpaceX, is preparing for a potential public listing.

Sources indicate that SpaceX could go public at a valuation of around $800 billion (R13.44 trillion), a move that would significantly increase Musk’s already vast fortune.

Musk holds an estimated 42% stake in the company, which has benefited from major government contracts and the rapid expansion of its Starlink satellite internet service.

Forbes estimates Musk’s total net worth at approximately $677 billion (R11.38 trillion), with his wealth also bolstered by his shareholding in electric vehicle maker Tesla, whose stock has surged in recent months.

Musk, who first became the world’s richest person in 2021, previously broke the $500 billion mark earlier this year. The latest valuation has reignited speculation that he could become the world’s first trillionaire, should SpaceX proceed with its highly anticipated listing.
