“We Must Respect Each Other’s Roles” IGP Disu to Lawyers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for mutual respect and better understanding between the Nigeria Police Force and the legal profession, urging lawyers and police officers to understand their respective roles and resolve disagreements through dialogue.

IGP Disu made the call in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, and members of her team to the Force Headquarters.
He described the police and lawyers as important partners in the administration of justice, noting that while the police protect lives and property, lawyers have a responsibility to safeguard citizens’ rights.

The IGP also advised lawyers to avoid filing the same petition on a matter at different police formations, saying this could result in multiple commands handling the same case and lead to duplication of investigations and unnecessary delays.
