Reps Panel Urges Agencies to Fast-Track Baro Inland Port Take-Off

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Baro Inland Port has urged the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Nigeria Navy, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), and Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) to strengthen collaboration for the smooth concessioning and operational take-off of the port. Committee Chairman, Hon. Saidu Abdullahi, issued the charge during an interactive session with key stakeholders and the Federal Ministry of Transportation in Abuja.

Lawmakers stressed the need for the Ministry to provide essential infrastructure to fast-track the clearing of goods at the port, while also addressing lapses in communication between NIWA, ICRC, and BPE. The Committee commended efforts made so far to foster inter-agency cooperation and announced plans to tour the facility to ensure readiness. Hon. Abdullahi further assured that the panel will push for adequate funding in the 2026 budget to guarantee the port’s smooth launch.
