Welcome to the DC Beekeepers Alliance
This is a community and resource site for beekeepers (and wanna-bees) in Washington, DC. We educate folks interested in becoming beekeepers
We offer mutual support to community members
We build skills in areas of special interest (like Top Bar Hives or Queen Rearing)
We give talks and participate in outreach to the public on honeybees, pollination and the en

vironment
We collect swarms of bees
We work with community and government organizations on public projects
We meetup on the third Wednesday of every month. Members are welcome to ask questions, contribute content, and participate in organizing activities. Both are closed to protect beekeeper privacy, so we'd like you to request to join.

DCBA Zoom Meeting September 16: Structural Removals and the Secret Life of Bees
DCBA SEPTEMBER MEETING: 9/16, 6:30-8+ PM, https://www.dcbeekeepers.org/meetings
Please Zoom with us next week!

"Structural Removals: Questions to Ask, Approaches to Consider, and this Special Look into the Secret Life of Bees"
Cindy Bee of the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective wrote the book on structural removals (Honey Bee Removal: A Step by Step Guide, available from the author at beejour....com as well). 2020 was a year of swarms, and therefore a year of more removals than we are used to seeing. As urban beekeepers, our concern for our neighbors must equal that for our bees, and we need to understand how to help everybody stay in or get back to their homes! Removals also allow us to see housekeeping choices made by the bees, and to witness their return to the wild with how that compares to our life with us.
Cindy has also got some observations on this swarmy year, and some of its downstream impacts on queens, and more!
"Actual DC Removal Projects" real stories about extractions by local beekeepers who do removals, currently including Sean Kennedy, Erin Gleeson, and Josh Calo.real stories about extractions by local beekeepers who do removals, currently including Sean Kennedy, Erin Gleeson, and Josh Calo.
