Our mission is to inform, engage, and connect people around the world in support of freedom and democracy.

The United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) encompasses all U.S. civilian international broadcasting, including the Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), Radio Free Asia (RFA), Radio and TV Martí, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN)—Radio Sawa and Alhurra Television, and the Open Technology Fund (OTF). USAGM broadcasters distribute programming in 64 langua

ges to an estimated weekly audience of 427 million people via radio, TV, the internet and other new media. USAGM works to serve as an example of a free and professional press, reaching a worldwide audience with news, information, and relevant discussions.

Yasir Alhaiek hosts Alhurra's "In Iraqi" show, a weekly news program focusing on the latest developments in U.S.-Iraqi affairs.

Alhurra is part of USAGM's Middle East Broadcasting (MBN), an Arabic-language multimedia organization that reaches 33.5 million people in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) weekly. The network has a team of journalists across the region, dedicated to producing stories that often go unreported in the indigenous Arabic press.

Since 1960, VOA has been reporting news and information to 22 francophone countries in sub-Saharan Africa with an alternative to state-owned and/or supported media that dominate the airwaves in many of these countries. Although independent radio and television stations are making some advances, many remain subject to government interference.

On January 17, 2016, VOA contributor Almigdad Mojalli was tragically killed in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike near Sana’a while documenting the aftermath of another attack on civilians.

Mojalli was one of the few Yemeni journalists working with international media. Despite threats and personal loss, he continued to shed light on Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, ensuring the world saw the stories of those affected by war.

Today, we honor his bravery, resilience, and commitment to truth.
