Congrats to Of Tropique on their new release! We love this band from Japan and proud to have 2 of their releases in our catalog! The first 7" sold out! but we still have a few copies of Buster Goes West! Onward and upward!

Japanese fusion band of Tropique has released its second studio label, a follow-up to the band's surprising debut Buster Goes West (Electric Cowbell Records). Released in May, the new album Looking For My Foot Foot is on the new Japanese label Pepei Records.

Electric Cowbell Records announces the launch of Richmond Relics, a new archival imprint dedicated to preserving Richmond, Virginia's rich musical history. Its third release is a re-mastered album reissue series collecting the complete recorded output of Burma Jam, originally released between 1988 and 1996: demo cassette Zap! Pow!, LPs Emergency Broadcast System and New Ground, and Neapolitan Metropolitan compilation single "You Have the Right". The full catalog will be released worldwide on digital and streaming platforms June 19th, 2026.

Burma Jam hailed from Richmond, Virginia and was active from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s. Formed in 1985 by Ugandan Abednego Okoth and St. Thomas native Lewis Ible with drummer Malik Johnson - all VCU students at the time - and bassist John Q. Booker, and guitarist Tim Harriss, the original sound was traditional island reggae. After several incarnations, the penultimate Burma Jam line- up was with Malik, John, Tim Harriss on guitar and vox, Ernest von Ofenheim on sax and vox, and Alison Auth on keys and vox.

The group evolved an original sound that fused reggae, dub, punk, hardcore, and acid rock. Their music has been described as “Dub Syndicate meets Dear Kennedys"; "reggae hit with gamma rays" and "outlaw reggae". After self-releasing their debut cassette Zap! Pow!, Burma Jam began playing with acts as varied as Bad Brains, Meat Puppets, T***s and the Maytals, Culture and Fishbone.

Guitarist Tim Harriss is also known for his band Kepone and has been a regular player for GWAR. Prior to Burma Jam, Alison Auth played with Richmond luminaries Frank Daniel (Single Bullet Theory), Lynn Harrell (Surrender Dorothy) and Adam Schaffer (The Toronados) in the band Venus Envy. She later played with Ann Hairston (False Face Society, "Stomp") in Annex. Malik and Tim toured with Human Rights and Eek-a-Mouse as their drummer/guitarist respectively.

Burma Jam was known for their live, raucous sets: Horns, samples, live dub, harmonic vocals combined with Malik's wholly original drumming, Booker's pounding bass, and Tim's other-worldly guitar riffs defined their sound. Alison's vocals went from tender to guttural in an instant and carried emotion from start to finish. Lyrically, Burma Jam often addressed political issues of the day which still resonate.

With this comprehensive reissue, Richmond Relics restores Burma Jam's catalog to circulation, celebrating their place as one of Richmond’s most beloved live bands.
