***Seeking POC musicians and performers***
After we released the pilot episode of Baby Bear back in late May, we paused work on the project because of the obvious need to focus our attention on the major action in our streets calling for racial justice here in DC and around the country.
Our first episode had an all POC lineup, was a fundraiser for an important cause (Sanctuary DMV), and highlighted a minority-owned small business hurt by the pandemic (NuVegan Cafe). In returning to the project, we've consulted with artists, activists, and others on how we can restructure Episode 2 to be most meaningful given the current need. From these reflections, it was obvious that this next episode should be a forum to elevate black artists and voices. So the upcoming show will feature an all black lineup, will raise money in support of front-line efforts on racial justice, and will highlight a black-owned business in need of more customer support.
We are inviting the community to share your thoughts. So comment/DM/email us ([email protected]) if you have suggestions for:
- black musicians, comedians, dancers, spoken word poets, story tellers, or performers of all other kinds (and yes this is definitely a paid gig!)
- small local or national non-profits working on racial justice and the Defund the Police movement; and/or
- black-owned small businesses hurt by the pandemic
Not everyone can fit into this 30 min show, but there will be many future episodes, all guided by our principle of highlighting people of color, women, LGBTQ and other artists who are not always given the same opportunities to be showcased.
