Every year, we at LSS take a moment on World AIDS Day to think about the progress that’s been made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, both in the U.S. and globally.

We know that progress is real because we’ve seen it firsthand filming stories on the ground — from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s (EGPAF) programs with PEPFAR helping children, mothers, and families throughout sub-Saharan Africa, to KFF's Greater Than AIDS initiative raising awareness about the epidemic in the U.S. among the communities who are most vulnerable.

Today that progress is at risk from cuts to domestic public health and global health programs across the board.

To get a sense of what is at stake — and the lives that can be transformed — watch this piece “Pamoja” (Swahili for “Together”) that we filmed previously with EGPAF in Homa Bay, the county that had the highest HIV prevalence in Kenya.

Please share with your networks and family and friends as a reminder of what’s possible for ending HIV/AIDS at home and around the world.

Here at LSS, our standard is simple: “Would you show this to your family at Thanksgiving?” It’s one of the best ways to gauge how proud we are of a piece.

As we head home for the holidays, we’re taking a moment to be thankful for all the projects we’ve been a part of this year.

Exciting news! Our supernatural horror film “Just Kill Me,” won “Best Overall Film” at this year’s 48 Hour Film Project, Horror & Sci-Fi contest 🥳🎉 Because we won, the film will screen at the international film festival, Filmapalooza in Lisbon, Portugal, next year.

We couldn’t be happier with the results. Our short film received 20 nominations and took home awards for “Best Directing,” “Best Editing,” “Best Supporting Actress (Nicole Vaughan),” “Best Trailer,” “Best End Credits,” “Producer Award,” and an Honorable Mention for “Best Score.”

The 48 Hour Film Project challenges teams to create a short film from a randomly-drawn genre in just 48 hours. We spent a weekend stretching our creativity, collaborating in new ways, and yes, getting very little sleep.

Awards are wonderful, but the real reward is seeing lives changed through the stories we help bring to light.

We’re pleased to share that two of our films earned Gold MarCom Awards for 2025 — "Henry Street" and "Impact," which both debuted at the Big Benefit in May.

Now “Henry Street” is a Finalist for Humanitarian Action & Services in the 5th Annual Anthem Awards AND in the running for the Anthem Community Voice Award, which is determined by public voting.

The film tells the story of the Quezada family, Lower East Side residents who have used the services for five generations. Please help us take it even further and vote for “Henry Street” at the website (link in bio).

Out of the 60+ awards we’ve received over the years, stories like these remind us of how grateful we are to do this work, amplifying voices that matter and resonate with audiences globally.

Have you listened to our new podcast, “Man Up”?

We created this original series featuring sociologist and leading extremism expert Cynthia Miller-Idriss to explore the overlooked role of gender in fueling online hate — and leading to real-world harm.

Over six episodes, she has honest and wide-ranging conversations with some of the leading experts on issues that might at first glance not seem related: from antisemitism, anti-LGBTQ+ hate, and domestic violence to online gaming and the crisis of loneliness in men and boys.

The thread that connects them all? The misogyny that is increasingly taking over our social feeds and online spaces, and spilling into our everyday lives. It’s an issue that Miller-Idriss explores in her new book “Man Up: The New Misogyny and the Rise of Violent Extremism,” published by Princeton University Press.

Start with our intro episode to learn more about why she decided to tackle this topic now, and to preview some of the issues and voices you’ll hear across the series.

We promise that each episode will also give you a reason to hope — and some guidance on how to have these important conversations in your own life.

”Man Up” is available at [https://linktr.ee/manuppodcast], and wherever you listen to your podcasts.

With all of the news overwhelming our phones and our feeds, people are craving conversation the most — trusted sources and real people, helping making sense of it all.

That’s why we created an original, limited series podcast with extremism expert Cynthia Miller-Idriss. She’s one of the most trusted and eloquent voices talking about harmful online content right now — and is the Founding Director of Polarization & Extremism Innovation & Research Lab (PERIL) at American University’s School of Public Affairs.

Our podcast is called “Man Up,” taking inspiration from Cynthia’s new book — “Man Up: The New Misogyny & the Rise of Extremism,” published by Princeton University Press.

We just published all six episodes, where Cynthia talks with experts, parents, and most important — young people — about the extreme content they’re seeing online, and how gender is almost always an overlooked aspect of it.

They discuss online gaming and content from the “manosphere,” and real-world harms like antisemitism, sexual violence, and anti-LGBTQ+ hate. ”Man Up” is available at our link in bio [https://linktr.ee/manuppodcast], and wherever you listen to your podcasts.

Give a listen, and please share with your friends to keep these conversations going.

For many of us, public media has a special place in our homes, our cars, our long walks, and most of all, our hearts.

And now, it’s under threat.

This week, and were named two of the ‘Most Iconic Companies in Internet History’ for Awards’ 30th anniversary. But it’s a sobering reminder that effective Oct. 1, federal funding for public media in the U.S. will be eliminated.

Public media shaped us as kids, students, and now as creatives – and that influence shows up in every story we tell. From motion graphic designers to producers, swipe to see some of the specific ways public media has inspired us →
