THE SUFFERING OF THE RUWENG PEOPLE.
By: Karbino Dudi Samuel
Juba, 12th Nov 2025.
Please read this poem to the end.
I am from Ruweng; the mother, the store, the feeder, and the big spoon for South Sudan.
I am from Ruweng, we started crying since 2015 about the effects of oil extraction, but no one ever responded because it's our oil that's relevant but not the people.
I am from Ruweng, the land of the oil, but our sons and daughters are being denied the right to lead oil institutions, including the Ministry of Petroleum and NilePet.
I am from Ruweng, the land that's richly blessed of so many resources, including the oil, which its petrodollars are being divided into individuals' pockets leaving us empty-handed but only with it's effects.
I am from Ruweng, and the world must know that the oil that is being extracted in our lands has negatively affected us, including our cattle.
I am from Ruweng, our babies are being born deformed, young people losing fertility, heart diseases rate increasing, our drinking water getting contaminated affecting both human beings and animals, our cattle dying anyhow hence leading to the lose of wealth etc.
I am from Ruweng, the only land that's remembered because of oil money but never gains a single coin from it.
I am from Ruweng, we have no hospitals, schools, roads, and security, but those at the oil fields have all these. Isn't that selfishness and ignorance?
I am from Ruweng. Where are our basic necessities for the oil affected communities in the MoU?
I am from Ruweng, for how many years should we keep suffering?
If the government can hear people, then please, we have suffered enough, and we can't continue anymore. Save us now!
