Ok, I really didn’t want to post this, but I have to settle a debate because we are clearly not seeing the same thing here. 😂
This is a set of stairs for the pool, and my concern is the way the stringers are supported. I’m being told it’s completely fine because everything is “secured” with straps, brackets, lag bolts, and plenty of hardware. My argument is that all the fasteners in the world don’t automatically make me feel better if the actual load path and support underneath the stringers isn’t right.
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but when I look at this setup, I keep coming back to the same question: where is the weight really being carried? I don’t want to wait until people are walking up and down these stairs all summer to find out that something should have been supported differently from the beginning.
So please, people who actually build decks and stairs, settle this for us. Is this setup acceptable as-is, or am I right to be concerned about the stringer support?
And if it’s wrong, don’t just roast it and leave me hanging. 😂 Tell me what the proper fix would be. Add blocking? A beam? Proper bearing under the stringers? Change the way they attach to the platform?
It’s only a small set of pool stairs, but that also means kids and family will be using them, so I’d rather be annoying now and make it right than ignore something that could become a safety issue later.
