Some conversations get avoided not because people don’t understand them, but because they understand them too well.

Keith Boykin broke that down in a way that was direct, honest, and hard to dodge.

This part of the conversation stuck with me.

We were talking about perception… and how people can lock you into an identity based on what they’ve seen.

But when Dr. Heavenly started talking about her campaign, it was different.

She wasn’t trying to prove anything.

She was talking about experience, responsibility, and what she believes she can do for her community.

And at a certain point, she stopped explaining.

She just said — watch me work.

Not for attention. Not for approval.

Just a statement.

One thing I appreciated about this conversation was hearing Dr. Heavenly talk about the part of her story that existed long before television.

Dentist. Business owner. Entrepreneur.

So when she talks about stepping into public service, she’s not framing it as a celebrity move.

She’s framing it as the next chapter of a long professional journey.

One of the things I wanted to understand during this conversation was the difference between the Dr. Heavenly people see on television and the real person sitting across from me.

If you watch Married to Medicine, you know she’s outspoken and never short on opinions.

But the way she explained reality TV was actually pretty honest.

She said what viewers see is simply her… times ten.

And that might be the best explanation of reality television I’ve heard.

Dr. Heavenly talks about understanding the assignment on Married to Medicine and producing the show. Full episode Thursday on The Kolby Kulture Show.

Dr. Heavenly said she knew exactly what she was doing when she launched her campaign on Married to Medicine.

“I made Quad my campaign manager so they’d show it.”

“And I ain’t mad at Toya… all it did was push me forward.”

I had the honor of sitting with Paul Wharton. Style consultant. Author. Two time Emmy nominated. But beyond all of that… a man who has decided to live in joy on purpose.

At one point he said, “Joy is the new black. It goes with everything.”

Man. That sat with me.

We talked about reinvention. About losing yourself and finding your way back. About choosing happiness even after life has tried to dim you.

Paul doesn’t perform joy. He radiates it.

This episode is real, layered, and honestly one of my favorites.
