Diversity of Pride Interview Series: Part 1 (Military Pride) 🌈

Wild Side Media had the incredible opportunity to partner with Capital Pride and the Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs for WorldPride Washington, DC 2025, and we are beyond excited to share our Diversity of Pride interviews with the D.C. community leading up to Pride 2026.

We spoke with the powerhouse leadership behind the city's eight Diversity of Pride organizations about everything from the importance of creating and nurturing safe spaces for our LGBTQIA+ community to what they would say to their 15-year-old self if they could travel back in time.

The result? 10 impactful interviews across eight sibling Prides, with almost 1 million people hearing from D.C.'s q***r leadership on the big screen at official WorldPride DC events.

And now, we're kicking off the Diversity of Pride Interview Series with Military Pride leadership. We pulled some of our favorite moments from former ED Commander Emily Shilling and Sparta - A Transgender Military Advocacy Organization program director Cathy Marcello's conversation at The LINE DC. Stay tuned for the full interview, live on all Wild Side Media platforms this month.

Visit givebutter.com/milpride2026 to learn more about D.C.'s second annual Military & Veteran Pride.

We also picked their brains about why the North Brentwood, Maryland-based clay, wood and metal studio and educational space plays an integral role in the Gateway Arts District community.

Check out what they had to say here, and stay tuned for snippets from our conversations with Pyramid Atlantic Art Center and Joe's Movement Emporium.

Visit gatewaycdc.org/ost2026 to learn more about the Gateway OST on May 9 at various locations in Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood and Hyattsville.

We Art D.C. ⚑️ Spotlight Eight

"D.C. is a bastion of Black excellence," says Cam Poles, the chief dot connector for D.C. Go-Go band Black Alley. "And I fell in love with the soundtrack to that Black excellence: Go-Go."

Poles sat down with The Dap Project, LLC co-creators Rhonda Henderson and Aaron Stallworth to chat about what they love about the District and how the city fills their cup creatively.

This conversation is part of the We Art D.C. interview series, a collaboration between Wild Side Media and DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), featuring dozens of local artists and CAH grantees sharing their perspectives on our creative community.

Stay tuned for more highlights from the interview series, and go to dcarts.dc.gov to find resources and opportunities for D.C. artists.

We hung out with the talented minds behind "Young John Lewis: Prodigy of Protest," Mosaic Theater Company of DC's new musical at Atlas Performing Arts Center now through May 3.

Wild Side Media chatted with playwright and lyricist Psalmayene 24 and composer and arranger KOKAYI about this exploration of John Lewis's activist years, framed by the killing of Emmett Till and the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

"It's a story of how movements are born and sustained, and how justice is provoked and triggered," says Mosaic Theater Playwright-in-Residence Psalmayene 24. "It's a reflection on how future generations get invited into the struggle for freedom."

Stay tuned for snippets from our full interview with Psalmayene 24 and KOKAYI, and go to mosaictheater.org to get tix to the very timely "Young John Lewis: Prodigy of Protest."

Costume designer Celeste Jennings, music director John Sygar and composer KOKAYI were among the creative team members from Folger Shakespeare Library's "As You Like It" who chopped it up with Wild Side Media journalists before the show opened last month.

Folger Theatre Artistic Director Karen Ann Daniels' reimagining of the Bard's beloved comedy brings D.C. to the forefront, infusing the production with subtle love letters to our city.

"As You Like It," extended through April 19, plays with the juxtaposition between the royal court and forest of Arden while applying a hyperlocal lens to every design and sonic element of the show.

This is a must-see show, from Jennings' incorporation of contemporary D.C. street style in the forest of Arden to the dynamic cast's ability to bring KOKAYI's original music to life onstage.

Visit the link in Wild Side Media's bio for tickets to Folger Shakespeare Library's "As You Like It," running now through April 19.
