🚨 TOP EDGE TILE — WHICH LAYOUT LOOKS BETTER?! 🤔

I’m about to install the top edge tile and I’m stuck between two options.

1️⃣ Align it with the shaved tile so the edges line up and the transition flows naturally.

2️⃣ Continue the brick pattern all the way across.

Personally, I think aligning it with the shaved tile looks cleaner because the edges line up—but I’d love to hear what the pros think before I commit! 😅

Blank slate, full control of the work, and a pretty good budget! 😎

I took my time on this project and tackled A LOT:
✅ Curbless shower with plank tile
✅ Relocated plumbing fixtures
✅ Completely new electrical plan
✅ Custom cabinets
✅ Custom glass
✅ Shower niche
…and plenty more!

Of course, it wasn’t completely problem-free. 😅

For the first time ever, my epoxy grout cured a completely different color. I contacted Laticrete Canada, and testing confirmed there was an issue with the mix. The solution was a topical epoxy grout colorant—and it turned out great!

Then came the real challenge… 😳

The interior wall was about 1/2" out of plumb on the top and 5/8" on the bottom, with a BIG twist in a load-bearing wall. Getting the shower layout, tile alignment, and glass placement to work together was definitely a challenge.

And honestly… 😂
I’m NEVER using plank tile for a curbless shower again!

But we worked through every issue with the client, kept things moving, and got the job done. 💪🔥

🔥 FIRST TIME TILING — DAY ONE PROGRESS! 😳

Never tiled before. Never even used an angle grinder until THIS MORNING! 😂

Today was my first full day tiling my new en-suite, and I’m absolutely exhausted. I don’t know how professional tilers do this every day! 💪😅

The shower area was definitely the hardest—with the round valve cutout and all the awkward cuts around the 600mm tiles.

Once I moved onto the next wall, things got much faster. So far, I’m really happy with the result—no lippage and the spacers are working great!

🚨 THINSET IN THE GROUT LINES — HOW DO I REMOVE IT?! 😩

First time tiling, and everything was going pretty well… until life got in the way and I didn’t clean out the excess thinset after setting the shower wall tiles. 😅

Now it’s dried, and I’m wondering if there’s a better way to remove it than scraping everything with a razor.

🚨 DOOR THRESHOLD TRANSITION — HOW WOULD YOU FINISH THIS?! 🚪

I had to cut the tile at the bathroom threshold and did my best to make the cut clean, but I still ended up with a few small chips and imperfections. 😅

The tile will sit about 1/4" higher than the adjoining floor, so now I need to figure out the best way to finish the raw edge.

🤔 Would you use a metal trim, stone threshold, or another solution?

Just started dry-fitting the tiles and everything is feeling nice and flat—within about 1mm! 😍

Really happy with how it’s coming together so far, but now comes the real test: SETTING THEM! 😅

🚨 FIRST-TIME HERRINGBONE — SHOULD I START OVER?! 😩

I’m a homeowner attempting herringbone tile in my primary bathroom, and I made a layout mistake right from the start. 🤦‍♂️

After playing with the grout lines, I managed to get the pattern back on track by about the 4th or 5th row. 🙌

But now I’m wondering…

🤔 Should I tear it out and restart?

🔥 HERRINGBONE BACKSPLASH — NEVER AGAIN! 😂

Update from a few weeks ago! This was my first tile project like this, and YouTube was basically my teacher. 📺💪

The 12×3 tiles were challenging enough, but cutting around the window above the sink was the REAL test. 😳 I was just praying everything would line up when the pattern came back together!

Grout is finally finished—just caulking left to do. 🙌

🚨 HERRINGBONE TILE — GOOD OR BAD?! 😳

I bought herringbone tile that came in sheets, but even the sheets weren’t perfectly aligned.

My contractor used a template AND spacers to keep everything even. 🤔

Is this actually a problem, or is this a normal way to handle herringbone tile?
