Man, today was one of those days that really tested my patience. I pulled up to this 4th floor walk-up apartment in the D.C. area with what I thought was a normal order. Turns out it was 12 full cases of water plus a bunch of other heavy groceries. No elevator in sight. I was going up and down those stairs for almost 20 minutes straight, sweating bullets the whole time. When I finally finished, I checked the tip and it was only $3. I genuinely need somebody to explain to me how this is supposed to make sense in 2026. Times are hard for customers, I get it, but delivery drivers are out here grinding too. What do y’all think about situations like this?

Driving home from work today in D.C. traffic and I end up stuck behind this massive tractor going super slow in the right lane during peak hours. I understand that farmers and farm equipment have every right to use the public roads, that’s not the issue. But when you’re on a busy commuter route at 5-6pm with hundreds of people trying to get home after a long day, it creates a huge backup. I sat there for a good while just thinking about it. What’s your take on this? Should there be better rules or time restrictions for heavy farm equipment on major roads during rush hour?

Just delivered a big order that came out to around $87 and the customer only tipped $2. After driving through traffic, finding parking, carrying everything up, and making sure it was correct. It’s getting harder and harder to stay motivated when stuff like this keeps happening. I know the economy is tough on everybody right now, but workers in the delivery and restaurant industry are feeling the squeeze too. Delivery drivers and restaurant workers, share some of your recent low tip stories if you feel comfortable. Customers, what do you believe is a fair tip for bigger orders these days?

Came outside today and saw my neighbor had started building a full deck right against our shared fence line with zero heads up or conversation. They just went for it. I’m trying to be understanding because people want to enjoy their space, but this feels a bit disrespectful when it’s literally touching the fence. Living in these tight D.C. area communities means we have to respect each other’s boundaries. Homeowners and renters, what would you do in this situation? Have you ever dealt with a neighbor doing major construction without talking first?

Last night at 8:27 p.m. we were literally seconds away from shutting everything down after a long exhausting shift when a party of 8 walked in and sat down like it was normal. The kitchen had already started cleaning and putting things away. We still took care of them but it threw off the whole closing process. Restaurant people know exactly what I’m talking about. How do you handle situations like this at your job? And for the customers out there — if you knew the restaurant was about to close, would you still sit down or would you go somewhere else?

We placed an order for what was supposed to be a full box of premium tomahawk steaks for the restaurant. When it arrived it was just one single giant steak. We tried to sell them at $65 each but barely moved any. Now most of them have gone bad and we’re taking the loss. Food costs are already crazy high and waste like this really hurts small restaurants. Restaurant workers and owners, how much product ends up getting thrown out where you work? Customers, are you still seeing these high steak prices on menus in your area?

Spent a full 15 minutes trying to squeeze into a parking spot for a delivery in D.C. today. The space was so small I had to go back and forth like ten times while other drivers were honking. This city’s parking situation keeps getting worse every year with more cars and fewer good spots. I know it’s a big city problem but it makes the job so much harder. D.C. drivers and delivery people, what’s been your worst parking horror story lately? Any tips for dealing with this madness?

Had a customer get upset today because his food took about 8 minutes during a busy lunch rush. He started raising his voice like we were deliberately taking our time. We’re a restaurant, not a fast food drive-thru. These kinds of entitled moments are becoming more common and it really wears on the staff. Service industry workers, what’s one of the most unreasonable or rude things a customer has said or done to you recently? I’d love to hear I’m not alone in this.

It’s 95 degrees outside with crazy humidity and I had to do 7 deliveries back to back with no real breaks in between. Carrying heavy bags from the car to the buildings with the sun beating down on me the whole time. By the end of it my shirt was soaked and I was completely drained. Summer delivery work in D.C. is no joke. Fellow delivery drivers, how are you holding up in this heat wave? What’s been the toughest part for you this week?

Got another one of those lovely notes from apartment management today. They’re quick to send warnings about small things or raise the rent every year, but the elevator in our building has been broken for almost 3 weeks now with no real update. It’s frustrating when you’re paying good money and basic maintenance keeps getting pushed back. Apartment renters in D.C. and surrounding areas, what’s the most annoying or ridiculous thing your management has done lately? Let’s hear some stories.

😩 Nothing humbles you faster than watching your ETA double because of one slow-moving vehicle.

Today's version?

A large tractor traveling down a busy road during peak traffic.

Before anyone gets upset, I know farm equipment has a legitimate reason to be on public roads and operators have every right to use them where permitted.

But when traffic is already packed, it can create a pretty significant bottleneck.

Within minutes there was a long line of vehicles, frustrated drivers, and a whole lot of people wishing they had taken a different route.

It made me curious:

Should moves like this happen whenever necessary, or would it make sense to encourage them during lower-traffic periods when possible?

Genuinely interested in hearing both sides.
