Ashli Babbitt was a U.S. Air Force veteran who traveled to Washington, D.C.. for the January 6, 2021 rally.
After the crowd moved to the Capitol, she entered the building with other rioters as lawmakers were being evacuated.

Inside the Speaker’s Lobby, officers barricaded a hallway leading directly to the House chamber.
Babbitt attempted to climb through a broken window in a locked door despite repeated commands to stop.

At approximately 2:44 p.m., a Capitol Police officer fired one shot, striking her in the shoulder.
She was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly after.

Multiple investigations later ruled the shooting justified and declined to bring charges.
Her death became a central symbol in post-Jan 6 political narratives, often detached from the sequence of events that led to it.
