Happy Men's Mental Health Month.
South Asian men often struggle to talk about mental health due to cultural expectations around masculinity, emotional restraint, and family honor. Many are raised to suppress vulnerability, viewing emotions like sadness or anxiety as signs of weakness. Mental illness is frequently stigmatized and seen as shameful, with therapy often dismissed or avoided to protect family reputation. Generational gaps and the pressures of immigrant life can deepen this silence, especially when personal struggles are weighed against cultural expectations of success. Additionally, a lack of culturally competent mental health resources can make it harder for South Asian men to seek effective support, reinforcing the idea that mental health care isn’t meant for them.
