On Monday, Pope Leo XIV exchanged greetings with members of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation and spoke strongly against doctors who betray their mission to defend life. He warned about the risks of a medicine subordinated to technical or utilitarian criteria at the Vatican. “No doctor should ever allow himself, on the basis of laboratory algorithms, to decide on the life of an embryo or of an elderly person,” the pope said June 22 during an audience with members of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation:

Pope Leo XIV is making a visit to northern Italy, where he will travel to the town of Pavia, near Milan. He will visit the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro, where the remains of Saint Augustine have been kept for centuries. Pope Leo will also meet patients at a major cancer treatment center specifically for children. The Pope will then proceed to Pavia Cathedral, where he will meet with members of the South American community, concluding his trip in Sant’Angelo Lodigiano, where the first American pope will venerate the heart of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, the first American canonized saint:

Pope Leo has declared an American religious sister “venerable.” The Holy Father signed a decree recognizing the heroic virtue of Mother Mary Teresa Tallon. She is the foundress of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate in New York. She entered into religious life in 1887 at the age of 19. In 1920, she formed the Parish Visitors. Mother Mary Teresa passed away in 1954 and was declared a “servant of God” in 2013.
