We are back at it again with the education! Glad to be in our 3rd year of partnership with Kingsman Academy for our Introductory Barber course at Wilson’s barbershop.

I have a whole new appreciation for what teachers do on the daily and how important having this role actually is!

All of our students have truly been special and fantastic tho, we have all been learning so much TOGETHER that it really makes the time spent a pleasure.

These are just a few moments from all of our cohorts and we look forward to many more. It’s not just about clippers and combs this is a great chance for some kids who have never even been this far Uptown to have a real experience! Pizza, ramen, sushi, parks and all that! We even went on a field trip to Manifest! 🤝🏾

We’re working hard at building our educational programming within the shop out considerably and would appreciate any support or feedback you all can provide on how we can continue to grow while this opportunity for the youths and grow the next generation of young barbers at Wilson’s on 18th!

Welp…let’s talk about full circle moments!

10+ years ago in the summer of 2012 I met for the first time and we instantly knew that this was the beginning of something special. We set out to do something that really hadn’t been done in this town before which is have a truly diverse, welcoming and authentic working barbershop. Being the first hired and first manager I’ve always taken great pride in what we were able to build. I am so pleased with everyone who joined our team and the beautiful community we were able to create on our cool little corner in Adams-Morgan.

Life be Life-ing (as always) and around the end of 2017-2018 we were all in very different places than when we began. L was pursuing her passion in an entirely different career, I was losing my dad and it seemed the entire country lost its damn mind. The shop was still in my heart even though it was shattered into a million pieces (for so many reasons) and I couldn’t pick them up without going on a intense personal journey to grow.

During my time away from the shop my pops joined the ancestors, I became a nationally published writer, accomplished podcaster, but over all I grew up. I became a husband, a girl dad (2x!), and business owner. Opening my first shop in SW was a great leap towards my ultimate goals and we were killing it! Global Pandemics however are things you really can’t anticipate and the impact it had was immense. During Covid I lost both my Grandmas in 6 months and experienced the longest personal period of unemployment in my LIFE. I refused to give up on myself and somehow I emerged from this pandemic AWS certified, more business savvy and oddly enough…happy.

We’ll get into the details one day but to make a long(er) story short….L and I had a shared dream and because life was taking her in different directions she knew that didn’t mean the dream was done. We have put a LOT of work over the last 8 months or so to reach this point and it is with great pride, pleasure and gratitude that I can announce that I am now the new OWNER of the barbershop located at 2010 18th St NW Washington DC!
