On Friday, October 19, local nonprofit Fair Chance hosted the 16th annual Butterfly Bash at Washington National Cathedral. More than 700 guests and 50 corporate sponsors representing DC’s top financial, real estate and legal firms came together to support education and underrepresented youth in the Washington, D.C. area. Fair Chance recognized Carlos M. Gutierrez, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, for his philanthropic work as the co-founder of TheDream.US scholarship fund. NBC4’s Eun Yang emceed the ceremony and Elisabeth Cohen, Donnell Kearney and Scott Provinse served as this year’s gala co-chairs. Washington National Cathedral was illuminated with flickering, vibrant colors and butterfly imagery, as well as beautiful floral arrangements by Ash to Oak Floristry. Guests sipped cocktails, ate light bites and danced to live music provided by the popular local band Doctor’s Orders. Nearly $120,000 was raised during the 5-minute “Bash Cash” text pledge fundraising competition, which well surpassed Fair Chance’s $100,000 goal. Since 2002, Fair Chance has engaged more than 100 nonprofits and reached 80,000 children, youth and families in Washington, DC.
