The Wizards may have one of the toughest decisions of their rebuild sitting right in front of them.

Anthony Davis is still Anthony Davis.

When healthy, he can anchor a defense, dominate the glass, score inside and stretch the floor. Exactly the type of veteran star a young Washington team could use.

But there’s a catch.

Davis is looking for a 4-year max extension that would take him deep into his 30s.

And Washington has to ask itself:

Is paying AD the price of accelerating the rebuild…

or the contract that could eventually hold it back?

With Trae Young already on a massive deal and AJ Dybantsa waiting in the wings, the Wizards have a young core to build around.

They just have to make sure they don’t sacrifice their future trying to win right now.

The Wizards have re-signed Gill to a one-year deal, per Michael Scotto, keeping a familiar face around for another season.

Gill has shot 54.5% from the field over the past six seasons with Washington, while also becoming a beloved presence in the locker room.

He now fills the Wizards’ 15th roster spot, giving Washington another reliable veteran who knows the team and can contribute when called upon.

Khris Middleton doesn't need to be the Khris Middleton of old in Washington.

He has a much more important job now.

Be the mentor to the Wizards' next superstar.

Middleton already showed how valuable he can be in that role last season.

After joining Dallas, he worked with Cooper Flagg on his post game and shot selection, with Flagg saying he learned a lot from the three-time All-Star.

Now he's back in Washington, where the Wizards have A.J. Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall pick, alongside a young core featuring Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson.

Middleton has been an NBA champion, a three-time All-Star, and an Olympic gold medalist.

The Wizards don't need him to be their leading scorer.

They need him to teach their next superstar how to become one.

If he can do for Dybantsa what he started doing for Flagg, Middleton's biggest impact in Washington might never show up in the box score.

The hype around AJ Dybantsa is already building before the season even starts.

According to Polymarket, the Wizards rookie is currently the favorite to win Rookie of the Year, with Cameron Boozer sitting just 1% behind him.

That tells you how much belief there already is in what AJ can do right away.

Washington is giving him a huge opportunity from Day 1, and if he adapts quickly, he could become one of the biggest stories of the entire rookie class.
