Agents from the Federal Protective Service guarded the Portland ICE facility Sunday night, making at least one arrest as they escorted vehicles into and out of the building while pushing away protesters near the entrance. One federal agent fired sting balls as well.

Earlier in the afternoon, FPS agents dialogued with the activists, clarifying their role as protecting the building but not in immigration enforcement itself.

An anti-ICE protester told an FPS agent (part of the Department of Homeland Security) that "you are associated" with ICE (also under DHS) by protecting them.

"That's like saying your butcher is the same as your gas station attendant," the agent countered.

"How much control do you have over people who don't work with you?" he added.

Protesters briefly blocked traffic nearby the Broadview ICE facility Saturday night, but Illinois State troopers arrived, promptly shouting at them "OUT OF THE ROAD NOW!" and forming a police line.

"Move back!" the troopers yelled as they used batons to push the crowd.

“Get back!” Yelled Illinois Troopers as they continued to push the crowd after they got off the road.

“You could have killed her” a protester yelled after another toppled over. “She hit her head!”

“Unlawful assembly!” repeated the trooper in command.

Illinois troopers approached and took the man who had originally led the group to march on the street onto the ground, arresting him.

“Shame! Shame!” The crowd yelled at police, calling them “Gestapo.”

“Get out of the street!” troopers yelled back.

“We’re not going to allow you to block traffic on major thoroughfares!” explained the State Troopers’ commanding officer, before he formed a police line and pushed the entire group back toward the ICE facility.

State troopers ultimately maneuvered to push protesters right back where they began, into the cement-barricade-perimetered “protest zone” outside the ICE facility.

“Leave her alone!” Protesters chanted as troopers waded into the crowd, apparently intent on making a targeted arrest.

The officers retreated empty handed after the activists stuck together.

“The people, united, will never be defeated!” they chanted.

At the back entrance to Broadview, Illinois ICE facility, however, a man was arrested.

Other protesters said it was for being on the street.

He yelled that he hadn’t been read his rights before a trooper then Mirandized and put him in the arrest van.

Crowds confronted ICE agents in Brighton Park, Illinois Saturday afternoon after agents shot a woman there who they say had blocked their vehicles while armed with a gun.

Some threw objects at ICE vehicles, and agents replied by tossing tear gas out the windows and at crowds.

ICE agents threw tear gas into the Brighton Park neighborhood, with canisters ending up on bystander porches and under parked cars.

ICE, CBP, ATF, and FBI agents gathered near the scene of the shooting, where protesters yelled at them as well.

One agent danced along to chants of "No hate! No fear! ICE is not welcome here!"

Some vehicles driving past the federal agents revved their engines to gas them out.

"ICE go home!" protesters chanted across the street. "Shame! Shame!"

People approached the rifle-carrying immigration agents and FBI agents who pulled back from them, one setting up a chain link barrier, which the group took back down.

The agents made it to their cars while surrounded by people heckling them, who celebrated as they drove away.
